Do you ever feel like your house is fully clean and clutter free?

There’s always something to do! Even when I’m relaxing, I know in the back of my mind there is 3 loads of washing waiting, or the dishes, or the floor could do with a mop… every day!

Working FT. Mystified how anyone keeps an instagram perfect home within a busy life.

Watching to see the answer as I feel like this a lot!

Pinkspottyumbrella · 26/11/2022 18:06

No because even if you spent 5 hours or more cleaning everything possible
I won’t stay like that for long !

OatFox · 26/11/2022 18:06

Nobody keeps an Instagram worthy house all the time. Nobody. Those are staged moment-in-time snapshots.

You don't see shit stains being cleaned on instagram. You see an already clean toilet bowl being cleaned because it's 'aesthetic'. None of it is real.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 26/11/2022 18:07

Nope.
Not with my lot.
Shit tip central.

monsteronahill · 26/11/2022 18:07

Yes - every Saturday when all my weekly normally jobs (mon-fri) and my big Saturday jobs have been done.

Currently sat, washing basket empty, fridge cleaned and stocked up, dishwasher empty, bathrooms all deep cleaned, everything hoovered and mopped fresh bedding on and utility re organised. Everything is clean and shiny and clutter free after the weekend reset.

Then tomorrow it'll be relaxing and not doing too much, then little jobs start again on Monday! Doesn't take too much to keep up, but I enjoy it so other people might think it's too much for them 😊 I do have anxiety and OCD so probably not the best judge of what's normal 😂

Fireyflies · 26/11/2022 18:08

No. Though I have occasionally got one room at a time completely tidy. That seems a more realistic target!

CheapWine · 26/11/2022 18:08

Yes, but only after the kids had left home.

QuestionsFromFiona · 26/11/2022 18:08

Mine’s clean and definitely clutter free 99% of the time. I’ve got loads of built in storage and a cleaner. I don’t clean in between cleaner visits, only the kitchen, loos clean, rinse the shower and the bathroom sinks after use.

I’m not a big consumer because I know how much clutter gets on my nerves.

Also work FT and doing a PT masters. I find my mind settled by clean/organised in a way that it wasn’t when DC were younger and I didn’t have tons of storage.

GreenLunchBox · 26/11/2022 18:09

When I had young kids: definitely not. Now it looks good most of the time.

RagzRebooted · 26/11/2022 18:09

Haha hahaha hahaha. Nope.
My house is neither clean nor clutter free. Too many people, too much stuff, ahitty rental house that looks like crap even when it is clean and tidy. When we finally move, I aim to have a nice looking home but it still won't be Instagram worthy as I'd just rather be reading or doing something else I enjoy. Nice enough to have guests is good enough for me.

MakkaPakkas · 26/11/2022 18:10

Nope

MintJulia · 26/11/2022 18:12

No, I have a teenager who leaves a trail of mess as he goes. I've had 14 years to get used to it. 😀

Maybe when he leaves home & I retire.

DatasCat · 26/11/2022 18:15

I assume this is a rhetorical question? 😂😂😂😂😂😂

A clean and clutter free house is a myth. Houses are meant to be used and lived in, not displayed like a showroom. Instagram is fake. Show houses are not real. Your house needs to work. Excessively clean empty looking show houses don’t work in the real world, any more than masses and masses of clutter that block entire rooms.

You need it clean enough for hygiene and clear enough for safety. Don’t worry about how it looks.

Pinniepotter · 26/11/2022 18:20

Yes mine is ok, not perfect of course. I don't keep clutter, everything has a place, I wfh so can mostly keep on top of it. I do morning and DH does evening before bed so we come down to tidy house every morning. Cleaner comes every Friday. I don't really leave a room without checking it's all in order.

DDs toys are lft about though - it's not a show home

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/11/2022 18:20

Yes; but no children or pets, have a robot vacuum cleaner / washer which does the rounds every night, and pretty low maintenance decor i.e. oiled parquet floors and nothing that needs moving to be cleaned under etc, and we’re both just pretty good at putting something back where it came from after each use. I think the latter really is key: my ex was a leaver-outerer and it drove me nuts, it created so much extra work because before anything could be vacuumed or wiped all the junk had to be picked up and put away / disposed of and that was a daunting task in itself sometimes.

MaryMollyPolly · 26/11/2022 18:21

No. And nor do I care.

JuneOsborne · 26/11/2022 18:22

Yes. At 2 am on a Thursday night/Friday morning. Because I stay up late to do it, otherwise it's be a tip every single day. It stays nice for a day.

stargirl1701 · 26/11/2022 18:23

I did when I was single and lived alone.

cliffdiver · 26/11/2022 18:23

It was during the first lockdown!

Now, not so much.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 26/11/2022 18:25

No. It's getting better as my kids get older - but it's definitely not perfect.

littlefireseverywhere · 26/11/2022 18:28

No, although I have decluttered cupboards recently. I've done the kitchen, just got 2 cupboards to do, but no room in the bin until stuff has been collected. Am recycling, foodbank etc where possible, but some stuff just has to be thrown away. Much easier to keep sides in kitchen clutter free when there's space in the cupboards. Although my oven, crikey, that's SO dirty....

Lcb123 · 26/11/2022 18:30

Mine is clean and clutter free but not ‘Instagram’. That’s not real, and actually I think they all look over done

ShillyShallySherbet · 26/11/2022 18:32

I never feel like I get to the end of my to do list. Tidying up with small children around is like trying to sweep up leaves in a hurricane, completely pointless. So no, the house is never perfect but if it was wouldn’t life be boring!

catinboots123 · 26/11/2022 18:35

I can only seem to do one floor at a time 🤦🏼‍♀️ So downstairs is currently clean, clutter free, relaxing - but upstairs looks like a crime scene

TheBirdintheCave · 26/11/2022 18:35

Not right now but at 8pm it will be :) Being a minimalist helps as we just don't have a lot of things. My son has a toy box in the living room and the toys go into the box after he goes to bed and my living room is an adult space again :)

The kitchen is the hardest room to keep tidy and clean as it's constantly in use.
