Energy credit refund

Hi all,

in need of some advice.

somehow I have credit on my gas account over £300. They keep taking out monthly payments from my bank account not using the credit. I have asked for credit refund (sent meter reading etc) and they said they will pass it onto billing department. Anytime I call they can’t seem to get through to billing department. Apparantly its busy. But they keep saying I have put a note down to say its urgent.

i don’t use that much gas. House is warm. What are my next steps to get my money back?

thank you in advance to anyone who replies

They will keep taking out the monthly DD regardless of the credit as its likely you haven't been billed yet. I get billed 6 monthly - how often do you get billed? I'm with British Gas and can amend my DD as needed so I would just do this and reduce the DD down to the minimum it would let me providing that payment and the built up credit would cover my bill in February.

@Singleandproud thank you for your reply. Im with so energy. Can’t seem to change monthly payments online. Iv never got billed. Just googled it and it says they only send bill out when moving house.

I don't know then. British gas send me a bill in February and July, estimate my usage and required DD and use whatever credit has been accumulated for the bill normally it covers it with a little left over. Although wasn't the case this year but that's because I had a dishwasher, electric oven and shower put in whereas before I washed up by hand and used gas so my electric was higher than predicted.

Maybe contact them via twitter on Monday.

Building up credit in the warmer months is normal because the idea is your monthly DD stays the same for every month, in summer you use less that that but in winter more so it evens out. Going into winter they will be very reluctant to give you your buffer back as your consumption will be greater over the next few months as if has been over summer.
