This probably makes me sound really thick, but I get really confused with these two words. Could someone kindly explain the difference to me? 😂

You have a wander in the woods.

You wonder about the meaning of life.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 25/11/2022 23:46

He wandered off. I wonder why?

Does that help a bit?

Shmithecat2 · 25/11/2022 23:46

Wonder - I wonder why they did that?
Wander - I took a wander through the forest.

Bemyclementine · 25/11/2022 23:47

Shall we go for a wander round town? I was wandering through the woods.

I wonder if it will rain? I was wondering if you'd like to come for a coffee?

I was wondering if we should wander to the coffee shop 🤔

Thanks, I think I get it! Someone sent me a text saying "I wandered why that happened" so that's incorrect isn't it? It should be "I wondered why that happened"?

Wonder is also a noun referring to amazement/admiration ie stared in wonder

Is this a discreet way of drawing attention to a really common and annoying mistake, without appearing to be a pedant? Grin
Clever!

Yes, that's incorrect. It should be wondered.

No question is silly if you don’t know the answer. It’s wise to ask

You're right. But it's an easy one to get wrong.
Remember it as wander has the A like in walk.
Wonder has the O like in oh.

CrappyUsername · 26/11/2022 00:01

Wonder is to do with thinking (I wonder why my daughter was sick last night?) and occasionally to do with amazement (eg: wondrous sight when referring to fireworks).

Wander is to do with walking/rambling.

Furries · 26/11/2022 00:15

One way to remember which is which - wandering is like going for a walk, so think of the first two letters to steer you in the right direction.

Wondering is in your brain
Wandering is in your feet.
