Quick question re peppermint oil

I bought a small bottle of peppermint oil earlier in the year to dilute in a water spray to deter any spiders.
Tomorrow I’m making mint chocolate chip ice cream, and I’m wondering if it will be safe to use the oil to flavour my ice cream? I have bought some peppermint extract, but reading about it online it seems as though it won’t be strong enough to give it enough peppermint taste.

Nope - don’t ingest essential oils

It would be incredibly strong. You'd need food grade stuff really, not just peppermint oil.
I have used it in the past (one drop in a very large glass of water) for painful indigestion. Wouldn't recommend it.

Ingesting essential oils is actually done; it's a big thing in France in particular, called aromatology, a type of healthcare. The problem is that it could be dangerous if not understood properly. You'd have to know what you were doing, and be absolutely certain the oils you used were absolutely pure and and not bulked put with synthetic fragrance, as so often happens with oils that are intended as fragrance oils, even if they call themselves essential oils. I have used essential oils in this way, but I do know what I'm doing, and only when I am absolutely certain of the quality and integrity of the oils.

As the pp says though, peppermint essential oil is exceedingly strong!
