I have a first generation Kindle which I am looking to upgrade . I want one which I can read in the dark. I don’t want ads but I think it’s possible to get rid of ads anyway by going into settings. I believe some of them will work with Audible and download library books. I don’t know what type is best. Im bewildered by the different types.
Please
advise
me!

Paperwhite is great, i would just pay the extra £10 for ad free.

Someone lent me a paperback recently and I tried to read it for 2 nights and ended up buying the title on Kindle. You can fade the light right down for reading in bed.

Don't know about Audible and Library books sorry

Audible works with Kindle e-readers but public library ebooks do not in the UK (or anywhere outside the US, I believe). Kindle Fire tablets will do both but obviously not optimised for reading in the way of a dedicated e-reader.

Paperwhite allllll the way. You can’t get library books on it but it’s excellent for reading on in any light - in the bath, in bed, on the beach in bright sunlight

Oh, and if you have a first gen kindle then you’ll be used to buttons to turn the page. The only one that has buttons now is the Oasis, the rest are touch screen only.

I switched from original kindle to paperwhite a few years ago and just don't like the lack of buttons, it still annoys me every time I use it. I'd like to switch to an Oasis but hard to justify when the paperwhite still works

I just bought this one from Amazon and it is great

Deal: Kindle Paperwhite | 8 GB, now with a 6.8" display and adjustable warm light, without ads amzn.eu/d/5BQkrc4

Currently they seem to do a deal where you can trade your old kindle for a £15 voucher, that makes it even better value.

It is ad free (costs £10 extra, but I think it's definitely worth it ) and has settings for warm light and brightness - both adjustable.

And it can play Audible books if link it to speakers or headphones via Bluetooth (but I haven't tried that yet)

Very pleased with it and it is miles ahead of my old one which had no lighting, etc

Great. That’s the one I had in mind. Thanks.

You can pay the tenner to switch off ads later if you find it too intrusive I think - I’m sure I’ve done that before
