Best Pet Insurance

Does anyone have any good recommendations for pet insurance please? We currently have accident only but realise that this won’t be sufficient to cover any illnesses that our cats may have and we don’t want to be caught out, as vet bills are increasing and can run into their hundreds and thousands.

Thanks

Hi OP, I've had Argos insurance for various pets and have found it excellent - it's not the cheapest (and we went for the top tier of insurance) but they have been great when we made claims - payouts have been made quickly with no issues 👍🏻

Catnuzzle · 24/11/2022 21:42

Napo. Excellent value and easy to use.

GozerTheGozerian · 24/11/2022 21:45

Petplan. They aren’t the cheapest initially but lots of the cheaper insurers lure you in with a deal the hike the cost. They pay quickly, have never quibbled anything and our dog is definitely costing them money!

whatever you do get lifetime cover if you can.

I'm with pet plan.

I'm with ManyPets (uses to be BoughtByMany)

Thanks for the responses, so far, I will look into them all, we are with Animal Friends but accident only but realise now this isn’t enough to cover any significant bills, especially since cost of living have risen so much.

From long experience, Pet Plan are not necessarily the cheapest but are very reliable and good to deal with. Whichever company you go with a lifetime policy is the best option.

OrangeFluff · 25/11/2022 00:44

Petplan. They’re the only company my vets are happy to claim the money from directly. Any other companies the owner pays the vet and then claims the money back themselves.

Furries · 25/11/2022 01:09

PetPlan - their lifetime cover. Not the cheapest, but not astronomical either. That way, you have no worries if a pet develops a long-term condition (one of mine did, the other hasn’t yet).

Not a single quibble with claims, always paid out really fast. Plus I was a mess when my pet with a long-term condition died - couldn’t face sorting out any admin. They realised pretty quickly that I’d continued paying my monthly bill and refunded it straight away - all done very sensitively.

My mum had an absolute nightmare with Animal Friends - so she is now stuffed with her insurance going forward. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole that had a pissed off cat at the end of it!

dementedpixie · 25/11/2022 07:04

ManyPets will also pay the vet directly and I had no issues when I claimed
PetPlan was too expensive.

GingerPigz · 25/11/2022 07:10

Was with Petplan but left as thought I could get a better deal elsewhere... Eventually went back to Petplan as they really are the best (IMO) but only for cat as there were too many exceptions for the dog. Which ever one you choose - stick with them as chopping and changing is when the 'exceptions' get written into the plan.

Many pets

I've claimed a lot off them for multiple things and money has been in my bank within 3 days of submitting claim.

Highly recommend them.

StarCourt · 25/11/2022 18:50

Many Pets are great

Footballhater · 25/11/2022 19:05

Look for lifetime cover with the most you can afford per condition. Be careful, some say 10k per year but 1k per condition which is rubbish. And also if you change remember that anything your cats have been seen for will be excluded in a new policy. So for instance a sore ear will mean they won’t cover anything to do with ears in the future.

Riverlee · 25/11/2022 19:08

I have a discount for Many pets if you’re interested.

FlyingFlamingo · 25/11/2022 19:08

Tesco, they have never quibbled over a claim (and one of my cats loves a vet visit, in fact we’ve had a trip there today)

gablody · 09/04/2023 16:46

Yes, please. I'd be interested, or if anyone else might have a discount for ManyPets. Thanks🙂

gablody · 09/04/2023 16:48

That was to Riverlee btw, in case that wasn't clear ... I'm a newbie on here 👶. Thanks

Another vote for petplan.

BettaSplenden · 09/04/2023 16:56

Petplan 1000% they were great when my cat had multiple illnesses and only declined some food that I hadn't realised the vet had added onto the bill (I knew it wasn't covered as they were already playing for a different food for that cat). Literally maxed it out and they were great as I was claiming multiple bills across multiple vets practices as my boy was referred into specialists. they also paid for the euthanasia which I wasn't expecting and on top of that stopped all my direct debit and post etc on that account as it was just before renewal and I was expecting lots of crap and never did. (Just received stuff for his brother) and they refunded half the months premium too. They were great. Not the cheapest but I wouldn't use anyone else.

AllTheOtherCats · 09/04/2023 17:05

Agria have been great for me. Have been with them for the last couple of years on lifetime policies for elderly rescue kitties and they've paid out several thousand without quibbling. Not the cheapest but I'd say they're worth it

Whatever plan please choose dental cover. My DD is a vet and frequently sees cats and dogs in pain because their owners cannot afford to treat them and the insurance doesn’t cover it.

In my case, Many Pets have always been great at paying out for my FIV cat who has a lot of dental issues. Petplan wouldn’t cover it.

RoseTraybake · 17/03/2024 12:44

I am also interested in Christian pet insurance, and though I've usually got enough to pay pets vet's bills, and wouldn't typically have to call on the insurance company, I would like to think about and insure for the future of the souls of my pets, for they are simpler and cannot consider such things 5hemselves.

JimnJoyce · 17/03/2024 16:00

Mine are with Many Pets and have been great at paying out. Previously I had Animal Friends and they were dreadful
