DVLA delay name change

Couldn't find anywhere to post this so thought I'd put it here!

I got married back in September and my husband has changed his surname to mine.

He did this by deed poll then once he'd received the relevant forms he sent off the application to change the name, along with his old license and birth certificate and deed poll certificate. I should also mention he is type 1 diabetic.

This was almost 6 weeks ago and we still haven't received anything back. Do people with medical conditions licenses take longer to come back? Is it because it's him changing his name that it's taking longer?

We've tried calling DVLA and using their web chat service but getting through to someone is impossible! We are worried his application has got lost and we will have to replace all the lost documentation. I'm trying every day to speak to someone.

Has anyone else had issues recently?

Yes lots of delays with medical applications. My niece has a medical condition and waited 13 months for her provisional licence despite repeated phone calls, letters and emails asking about the delay. They refused to give a time-scale just said there was a backlog.
Someone on Facebook recommended contacting the local MP, which she did, and the licence arrived a fortnight later...

My DD's standard provisional took 13 weeks. Medical licences take much, much longer.

Its the DVLA, it'll take ages. Just a simple address change took 4 months earlier this year.

Okay, thanks for your replies! We will hold on a little longer. It's only that my friend who recently moved sent hers off for an address change and it took 3 weeks. That's why I was wondering.
