Are Cyprus and Greece just as nice as Mexico?

My boyfriend wants to go to Mexico next year for our yearly holiday.
I don't
I don't fancy a 10 hour flight and I think there's nicer places with a shorter flight time.
I've suggested Greece and Cyprus as I've been to Cyprus and loved it.
I personally think they are just as nice as Mexico and tbh I've never fancied it
Can anyone who's been to any of these places give me some opinions ?
Price is similar too
Mexico for 10 days is £1534 pp and Cyprus /Greece is around same price

At that price you're going at the low end of the market, should be similar in Greece or Cyprus

Icedlatteplease · 24/11/2022 08:23

If its a pool or beach and a restaurant then yes probably. If you want to explore cultural stuff then you won't get same ancient ruins

Icedlatteplease · 24/11/2022 08:24

I mean they will still be ancient ruins but different ones

mrsbinggg · 24/11/2022 08:25

Pool/beach for me

If you want to leave the hotel, go to Greece or Cyprus.

MarianneVos · 24/11/2022 08:27

No, not at all the same. And it's not true about leaving the hotel.

Mexico is amazing, far more luxurious than Cyprus or Greece, access to better quality food eg brilliant steak.

My favourite every holiday was in Mexico. I've had lovely times in Cyprus and Greece but it doesn't compare.

Mexico is beautiful and the hotels lovely but you have to be careful going out and about. We went in May when everything had just opened up and people were obviously desperate for money and the hotel understaffed. However we had been to the exact same place 7 years previous so noticed a lot of change I suppose. The hotel itself is the nicest we have ever been to, the food amazing and the scenery is fantastic with loads of wildlife etc. I also love Greece, love the people, the food and the sea 🥰. The flight is looooonnnng to mexico and Cancun airport is something else lol. It depends where you go and what you want out of a holiday? I found it easier and safer to go out and about in Greece but Mexico cheaper for what you get 🙃

To be fair, Greece has a pretty decent range of ancient ruins!

TellMeWhere · 24/11/2022 08:29

Not comparable in my mind. What are you going for? If Mayan ruins, Hispanic culture, Mexican food, then you'll be disappointed in Europe.

fortheloveofflowers · 24/11/2022 08:30

Having been to all three. I’d never waste my time or money in Mexico again. There really isn’t much outside the resorts to do. It’s expensive too to do anything.

hay5689 · 24/11/2022 08:31

I've been to Cyprus and Mexico and a 4/5 star in Europe isn't the same as a 4/5 star in Mexico. Having said that the price you quoted looks very cheap for Mexico so it depends when you are going and where you are staying.

mrsbinggg · 24/11/2022 08:32

For me I like a nice pool /beach
Nice restaurants
Excursions (boat trips /visiting nearby towns)
Little markets
When we went to turkey doing the Turkish baths etc
So similar types of things

Mexico has much much better snorkeling possibilities- we saw turtles and large rays. Great food and ruins too, but then so does Greece. If you are never going to leave the hotel though, it's probably not worth the extra flight and time difference (unless there is great snorkelling at the hotel beach and that is what you are into)

Not much to do?! Dios mio 😱

Definitely Cyprus or Greece after you saying what your preferences are.

I don't understand this. How can Mexico be more luxurious? Surely it depends which hotel you stay in, in either country.

This is the Mexico holiday

It really depends on what type of holiday you want and where exactly you stay. I've been to all 3 places on very different holidays. For the sea, I don't think you can beat the Greek Islands. For swanky hotels then probably Mexico. But I'd rule out Cyprus. I've been a few times and it's not a patch on Greece.

fortheloveofflowers · 24/11/2022 08:36

Not unless you want to spend loads of money getting places. I found it very expensive. Nothing special about the town centre in Cancun.

All trips were around a $100 or more. So compared to other places like Cyprus and Greece there wasn’t.

OldWivesTale · 24/11/2022 08:36

Personally I wouldn't want to fly for 10 hours for a beach type holiday. Greece is far better - and nearer.

For the same money you will get a much better standard of hotel in Mexico.

MarianneVos · 24/11/2022 08:38

Agree that Cancun isn't brilliant, if you go nearer Tulum then it's much nicer, Tulum is absolutely fine to walk around, lots of lovely little restaurants and amazing beaches. The hotels also aren't on top of each other like Cancun.

AriettyHomily · 24/11/2022 08:41

Greek islands every time for me.

TellMeWhere · 24/11/2022 08:42

We stayed here in Tulum. Was lovely. Tulum is much nicer than Cancun or PDC.

We hired a car and did all sorts.

underneaththeash · 24/11/2022 08:44

Sounds like a really good deal to Mexico. What time of year are you going?
