Bad Habits You Would Like To Break

I tend not to make New Years Resolutions but there are a few things I could do with stopping. One is buying magazines as they are taking over the house! I’m a sucker for offers eg so many copies for £1. I have 6 editions of Woman & Home from January to June on my kitchen table & have barely flicked through them. Also lots of Best, Woman, Woman’s Own etc. Add to those all the free supermarket mags & you have a lot of dust generated by all the piles!
What would you like to change?

Anyone? Thought this would be popular!

I'd like to stop comfort eating (even if it is sort of healthy, it's the fact I'm eating when not hungry) or eating when I'm bored when watching a film (whenever get the time to watch one).

Also to stop buying clothes. I'm not really bad with it but it's the wanting to, I don't know why I do it. Well, now energy bills are sky high I think I will forced to behave!

Stop comfort eating
Reduce sugar intake
Stop skin picking. If I find even the smallest bump I pick until it bleeds.
Picking my nails if there is a slight tear..I'll pick and rip the whole thing.
Shopping in the sale. Just spent a fortune in the pat mcgrath sale...beautiful.eyeshadows but I don't go anywhere to wear them

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 24/11/2022 15:36

superplumb I’m a terrible picker! I ended up with quite a nasty wound on my scalp because I kept scratching & picking what started as a spot.

All of these except the last one!

And to stop repeating what I’ve just said in conversation if someone doesn’t acknowledge it. Realised I do this and must look like a weirdo!

Hey OP! Check to see if your local library is connected to an app called Libby. On Libby you can access magazines including Woman and Home. So if you have a library card, download the Libby app, select your library (if they've signed up) then login with your library card. You can then access magazines online for free. Hope that helps!

Booking up every weekend with plans months in advance.

I'm putting my foot down - minimum of one weekend at home a month with no plans. Of weekends with plans, one a month must be at home.

It's miserable having no downtime and trying to cram stuff in during the week.

Terracottage · 24/11/2022 15:52

Getting up a bit too late and rushing in the morning
Drinking too much caffeine
Vaping
Snacking all the time instead of eating proper meals
Procrastinating on things, feel so much better when I just get them done
Waiting for the house to become a state instead of cleaning and tidying little and often
Spending my money instantly, instead of budgeting for the things I really want and making some savings (I am at least paying my debts off now and up to date with all my bills etc. but some habits die hard and I tend to spend today instead of save for tomorrow, and then end up having to borrow when a crisis comes up)
Booking things in advance, instead of doing it last minute and things being booked up and not being able to do them (lots of Christmas things at the moment, people seem to book them at the start of November 😯)

Procrastinating (which I'm doing right now as have loads to do but I'm sitting on the sofa on Mumsnet)
Scratching my head until it bleeds (anxiety/stress)

ChessieDarling · 24/11/2022 16:09

Chewing my nails. Something I’ve always done, since I was a small child and my dad used to bribe me with 10p a nail if they ever got long enough to cut! I’m doing pretty well, I only chew my thumbnails now, I’ve cut down one at a time 😂

Lovelycupofcoffee · 24/11/2022 16:37

To stop worrying about everything. It’s awful and needs to end .

leave my awful job as it’s making me I’ll . I’ve had this week off just to get away from it .

Quveas · 24/11/2022 16:39

MumsNet.

rickandmorts · 24/11/2022 16:46

Stop scrolling shit on my phone 😭 due a baby any day so hoping I'll be busy and too distracted to be on my phone much. It's a full blown addiction at this point 🤯

Pythonese · 24/11/2022 16:50

Chocolate

WinterLobelia · 24/11/2022 16:54

Ooh!

I stopped buying magazines earlier this year. i was spending about £15 a month on them. So that's at least £150 now.

Otherwise yes I could seriously do with a reduction in idly looking at things including MN online. I am wasting alot of time.

Does it help if you paint them? As soon as mine are bare I start unconsciously biting them, but with polish I'm not even tempted.

Mydogatemypurse · 24/11/2022 18:25

Smoking. I started again 4 years ago after a 6 year break. Its disgusting.

Purpleavocado · 24/11/2022 18:43

I used to buy lots of magazines. What worked for me was to cut all of the adverts out of an issue and see what was left. There were a few interesting articles which I could have googled. The rest was rubbish. I did this a couple of times and it really broke the habit.

I suspect it might actually. I used to have lovely nails but that’s because I was paying to have them done every 2-3 weeks but as soon as they were bare again, it all went to pot 😅 I’ll dig out my nail polish this afternoon!

Mary46 · 25/11/2022 16:21

Yes mags add up. I buy the odd Prima. Some of the glossy monthlies are over 8 euro here. Crazy.

AmyPeralta · 25/11/2022 17:08

Eating when I'm bored.
Scrolling on my phone. Just can't stop, and I start without meaning to

skilpadde · 25/11/2022 17:39

For the magazine buyers, I'd recommend joining your local library, as your library membership will probably come with access to loads of free magazines on an app (like PressReader, Libby, or BorrowBox, depending on your library).

DuncanBiscuits · 25/11/2022 17:42

Eating sugar. Mainly chocolate, every day.

peanutbutterontoast7 · 25/11/2022 17:45

Binge eating and binge spending
Coke Zero consumption.
Sugar intake
