I didn't have sex for 4 years now my period is super heavy??

As it says in the subject really. Can sex make your period heavy? I didn't have sex for 4 years due to exH leaving me and me not wanting to bring back men when the DC might see them / find out. Went away for a weekend and pulled, had (incredibly good) sex, this month AF came a couple days early and has been accompanied by the most agonising cramps and has lasted a week! For years and years it was 3 days heavy flow maximum, this time it has been 6. Is this a coincidence or is it A Thing? If I google I just get advice about bleeding immediately after sex which isn't what I am trying to find out about. I just want to know if the two things are linked.

I'd speak to your gp for peace of mind.

I have no clue why this happened, however 2 thoughts I had are, because of the time that had passed since you last had sex, it could just be a hormonal reaction to it?

TW (miscarriage mentioned)
Another thought I had (and I might be way out here, and don't mean to freak you out but it crossed my mind). Could it possibly be a very early miscarriage? Many very early miscarriages are mistaken for a heavy, painful period.

It is more likely the first, if any, of these, however speak to your gp.

I did wonder if it was hormones in some way but I can't find anything online.

It might have been a super early miscarriage, as did not use protection. Would a very early miscarriage cause more flow than a period? It was so much heavier and more painful but it started sooner than I would have expected my period.

Thank you for replying. I just wish it would stop as there is still spotting / very light flow.

Yes, an early miscarriage would be like a very heavy period, and can be very painful. I've had 2, and they were like how you describe. You could do a pregnancy test as there might still be enough hcg to show a faint positive.

It might also just be hormonal, or just a random bad period though.

I'm really sorry to hear that @Frazzledmummy123 😪 It was crazily painful, I have not had period pain like that before. There was one really intense sharp pain, and honestly I felt like I had been stabbed or something. Then the really heavy flow started and is only just easing off now, a week later. There was lots more clotting than usual as well.

Did you use any protection? You described what my early MC felt like.

Vansoffthewall · 24/11/2022 17:01

No I didn't use protecton. I did do a pregnancy test which was negative. I am still cramping a bit 8 days later and have been quite emotional in hindsight. Assumed this was because I am regretting sleeping with him though now I think maybe it was pregnancy hormones.
