Has anyone else had Amazon suddenly refuse their bank card?

It's really baffling me! It first happened a couple of months ago, I tried to place an order and they refused my payment. I had money in the bank, my card is the same one I've had since 2020 and it doesn't expire until 2025. I'd paid for Amazon Music and Kindle Unlimited a couple of days before this. I contacted Amazon and they said my bank refused it because my card was expired (even though it's not). So I contacted the bank (I'm with Nationwide) and they gave me the same response, they suggested to remove my card and then put it back in the next day. This worked. Until the next time I tried to place an order a couple of weeks ago! I tried everything I tried last time and nothing worked. I gave up and forgot about it.

Until just now when I tried to order something and the payment was refused again!! Even though since the last time it was refused, Music and Kindle have been paid for Confused

It's so frustrating!! Amazon is the ONLY place it seems to be refused, my card works everywhere else!

Has anyone else had this problem? Fwiw my husband is also with Nationwide and has never had any issues on his account 🙄

Oh I have this. We have a joint account and I have my own account with nationwide and amazon always refuse payment if I use the joint account but are fine with my account Hmm
I get around it by using mine and just transferring money but it's a pain sometimes. No idea what will happen when my card changes!

Yes, with a Capital One card. I can't subscribe through a particular game any more.

Stripyhoglets1 · 23/11/2022 20:12

Yes. It took against my credit card so I can't use it on amazon now and needto use a bank card instead. Its very annoying.

Yes it did it for about a month but seems to be working fine again now

It's driving me mad! I want a particular brand of yarn that I've scoured the internet for and Amazon is the only place I can find it that's it's not (too) extortionately priced 😤 and they won't even let me pay for it! Bloody knobheads.

Had this as NatWest sent us a new card (even though old one hadn’t run out yet) so had to swop over to the new card straight away.

imaditto · 23/11/2022 20:27

Can you buy an Amazon voucher on your card and then pay that way?

ShadowNight · 23/11/2022 20:58

I had this with my credit card. Used it for ages before, no problem, nowhere near expiry date, balance paid in full etc etc. Suddenly all purchases went to payment declined and I had to pay with another card.

Same as shadownight

username8888 · 23/11/2022 21:05

Bugger me! Mine just has. I have been getting emails to say my amazon platinum credit card is ceasing but a new day (?) card will take over, so I ignored it all hoping it would all be automatic.

Alexa has just said I need to update payment details.

username8888 · 23/11/2022 21:06

More shit to sort out

Antihistamine62 · 23/11/2022 21:08

Me! Every month I delete and re add the same card and then it stops my Amazon music subscription every single month! So frustrating

BlackCatTabbyCat · 23/11/2022 21:10

Yes!! Mine constantly declined I've deleted it and re added it multiple times and the same thing keeps happening I assumed it was a problem with my card as it's new but Amazon is the only place that's rejecting it. I have to keep paying with my mums card and transferring her the money it's really annoying me.

BlackCatTabbyCat · 23/11/2022 21:12

Just seen your with Nationwide so am I. This is the final straw with them after reading it's a Nationwide problem. Between their stupid card reader and yesterday they took a duplicate payment and cleared £600 out my account and left me in minus Angry

gamerchick · 23/11/2022 21:13

Just get a gift voucher. More of a pain but it does the job.

Just a weird heads up, Amazon went down early hours this morning around the 3ams and everyone I know got a weird phishing pdf email today so personally I wouldn't have a card attached in case it was a breech. Might be nothing though.

CounterQueen · 23/11/2022 21:16

It stopped accepting mine a couple of years ago (HSBC). I have a joint account with DH and it accepts his card but not mine. I have to send him links to things I want so that he can use his card to buy them. I got a new card last year and thought my troubles would be over, but no - it rejects the new card too. I could try to work it out with them and/or my bank but frankly cannot be arsed.

AlexaWhatsMyUsername · 23/11/2022 22:24

When our previous debit card expired we added the replacement card to our Amazon account. Works fine for a single purchase but then each time our monthly subscribe and save order tries to go through it fails on every single item. I have lots on subscribe and save and have to go in and re-authorise every single one (in Amazon and then in the banking app) each time. Bloody annoying.

Seeingadistance · 24/11/2022 01:11

Yes!

I lost my debit card in March - cancelled it, got a replacement, updated Amazon account, all fine for a couple of months, then payment was refused. Managed to press the right buttons to sort it out, then it happened again and couldn't fix it. Used chat to get help and ended up having to delete the card and add it again - twice!

It's happened again since then, and am never sure whether payment is going to be accepted or not.

Very annoying!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/11/2022 09:00

I've had to try with the joint account card and transfer the money across 🙄 it worked (hooray for rare yarn!) but it's a pain in the arse if this is the way it's going to be from now on!

I had the same problem with Nationwide, l rang them and because l had booked something for £600 ,and then used my card on the amazon app a few times their Internet security system put a block on my card.Once l past security on the phone the operator for Nationwide unlocked the block l had on amazon website , they explained that only the amazon app website was effected.
Hope this helps .

samsfireside · 23/02/2023 11:55

I am having the same issue at the moment. My Amazon Prime subscription won't renew. I have spoken to Nationwide and they say that the Amazon Prime platform isn't secure. Purchasing things is fine but subscriptions isn't. I am currently chatting with Amazon and having an argument about it.

Cazpz · 29/11/2024 09:18

Amazon suddenly won’t accept my debit card. Plenty of money in bank. Why? Is there any way to contact them as customer is rubbish
