Watching this recently and there was an episode where Joey was offering to re-tile Monica's bathroom floor. Monica was saying that it didn't need to be done so Joey moved the laundry hamper from it's place in the bathroom in order to point out the difference in colour between the spot that had been covered by the hamper and the rest of the floor.

Monica is supposedly a total clean freak yet we are meant to believe she never moves the clothes hamper to clean underneath?

Similarly, when Chandler discovered the locked door in the apartment that no-one had ever mentioned / commented upon previously and it turns out it's full of junk piled inside the closet. Didn't fit in which the character of Monica at all.

I know I have too much time on my hands but both of these scenarios seemed like a bit of lazy writing to me.

I don't remember the first but isn't the whole point of the cupboard of crap that it was Monica's secret shame because she was generally so tidy and clean?

@mynameiscalypso Yes, absolutely that was the point being made - I just thought a true neat freak wouldn't sleep knowing that much junk was piled up in their house!

I think the writing got very lazy after about the 3rd or 4th season.

Monica became this sort of crazy, neurotic, OCD woman, whereas in the early series she was much calmer.
Joey became really stupid.
Ross got silly, paranoid and neurotic.
Phoebe also became more stupid at times.
Chandler became pussy whipped and lost his edge.
Only Rachel stayed about the same.
There were some great episodes here and there even later on though.

I’m a neat freak and I have a crap drawer and a crap cupboard that I will never keep today because I just throw everything into it.

Mine was always that Phoebe throughout was an ardent vegetarian and humaniser of animals. And yet according to the episode where they buy her presents for her baby shower apparently her most coveted item is leather trousers. Doesn't make sense.

AND Phoebe - the animal lover - apparently forgot that she had a water-filled bag of live fish in her handbag! Annoyed me to no end at the time. Phoebe would never, ever do that!

Are you sure the tiles were dirty, though? Could have been colour change from daylight after a few years.

I loved early Monica. I hated how they wrote her towards the end. Everyone got ridiculous apart from Rachel. Ross was hilarious though!

I did like phoebe with the rat Bob. When she couldn't find him...

I hate mess, to the point where it does rule my life eg. I can't relax until things are put away/can't go out for the day unless the house is clean and tidy but agree - I also have a cupboard of doom!

However, her kitchen is really cluttered for such a neat freak. Most neat freaks I know don't like much on the worktops.

Nope you’re wrong on the point about the messy cupboard husband has ocd and must put everything away and has a messy cupboard he throws everything inside. It’s a tip.
