Is this safe in pregnancy

I've just found out I'm pregnant. Also I'm due to get my tooth pulled on monday due to repeated infection. Are they likely to still go ahead or will I have to continue to suffer with this tooth? Thanks!

it depends if they need to x Ray or not - I was due to have a tooth taken out but they needed to do another x Ray and wouldn’t as I was pregnant. If no x Ray needed and it’s just a local anaesthetic then they should take it out.

I work in dentistry and we wouldn't take your tooth out no.

Even if it didn't need an X-ray it's the LA we use and especially in 1st Trimester we wouldn't do it.

I got my tooth pulled during my last pregnancy because I was in so much pain. They took an X-ray and numbed me up however I was in my third trimester so not sure if that makes a difference. I had no issues.

So when can I get it done if not now @PinkButtercups ? I've been waiting 6 months, I can't keep going in pain like this

Ask them to drop the X-ray and just numb and pull the tooth out. It's only local so will not be any risk to baby.

I'm just going by every dentist I've worked with.
The risks outweigh the benefits in 1st trimester. At a push we may do it in second or third but I know the dentists I worked with didn't like doing it to pregnant women.

I mean, they may offer you antibiotics but again it's not great. The best option is to try speak to your dentist before Monday they could be completely different to our practice.

So women who don't know they are pregnant and have local anesthetic/tooth removal are putting their baby at risk? 😲

I've had a tooth pulled in two pregnancies. No xrays just numbed up and pulled. One was in the 1st trimester and the other was in my 3rd

cookiecreammmpie · 23/11/2022 13:56

I've had a tooth out in pregnancy, also had xrays. They told me it was fine as the xray was in my mouth and nowhere near the baby.

LavenderAndBluebells · 23/11/2022 13:58

I'm trying to find information online about weather it's safe or not and can't find anything substantial

Tha is everyone, I will just have to ask the dentist and fingers crossed they pull it out. I've just finished a course of antibiotics so worrying enough as it is
