Excellent road trip audiobook ideas?

So far, DH and I have enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club books, Lessons in Chemistry, and the Paper Palace, and others.

Can anyone recommend some excellent audiobooks for road trips along these veins? Page-turner story, engaging narrator, - something to help make the time in the car pass happily!

Hi I was once stuck in traffic for 5 hrs with my 10 year old. We listened to Hetty Feather and were fine!

The Witcher books are amazing I did all the audiobooks for them. Much better than the tv series.

My favourite audio book on a road trip around the Scottish Highlands was 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

Daisy jones and the six

Graham Norton's books (Holding or A keeper etc), Liane Moriarty (writer of Big Little Lies). The bear town series by Frederik Backman, or if you need some light relief then Parenting hell book by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecome.

I enjoy the Galbraith's Strike murder mystery series although Robert Glenister does a dreadful Scottish accent everything else is well done.

Great suggestions! I also enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six.

I have a Harlem Corben on go at minute.

I recommend BorrowBox for audio books - found it from a mumsnet recommendation.

The Martian

Or his subsequent book: Project Hail Mary - such a brilliant book!

nutellacrumpets · 23/11/2022 20:32

I'm enjoying the hunger games books on borrow box (free from Library)

Or the Susan hill Serrailer detective series.

I might get audible because I do listen to quite a few and get irritated I have to wait for them to be returned!

MojoJojo71 · 23/11/2022 20:33

Another recommendation for the Strike series. I’m on the third one now, they are fantastic.

whatllitbeeeee · 23/11/2022 20:34

Just an FYI - Spotify now has audiobooks available

Ravageur · 23/11/2022 22:10

@frozengoose me too! I absolutely love it. I listen to loads of audio books from there. The only thing I moan about is no continuous scrolling on the book version like kindle but really, for free it's a tiny thing and I feel mean even thinking it!

Brogues · 23/11/2022 22:37

Rivers of London for some supernatural lite.

wouldukissafrog · 24/11/2022 20:19

Placemaking for some new recommendations

AdelaideRo · 24/11/2022 20:24

Wolf Hall trilogy but you need to get the protagonists called Thomas sorted out in your head.

I'm also really enjoying Great Circle at the moment. And my favourite ever audio book is Narrow Road to the Deep North.

If you would settle for a podcast the BBC World Service 13 minutes to the moon ones are great (and several friends have done them with older children too).

DeliberatelyObtuse · 24/11/2022 20:52

The Robert Galbraith Strike series is incredible

I neglected my job, my family and my friends when I listened to them Smile
