Do I need a chair/seat for every guest at a house party?

What do you think the ratio of seats to revellers should be?!

Proper dancing, music, alcohol party no, I wouldn't worry too much about seats. I can't imagine everyone would be sitting down all at the same time.

More sedate canapés and drinks party I would probably want seats for 75% of guests at a guess

No, but like PP says if its going to be quite a chill party with people mingling and chatting rather than dancing the more chairs the better. Also are you serving any food? If so make sure its something that can be eaten with fingers while standing up.

In my experience, regardless of seats provided, you have to full on wrestle people out of the kitchen.

Even if you're cooking, fighting to the fridge etc... I've had a party of 30, supposed to be spread around three rooms, but mostly squished in the kitchen for no good reason.

Depends on peoples ages maybe.
Once we’d have all been congregating in the kitchen, these days we’d all be fighting for a seat!

Thanks, I think it’ll be a bit in between the two!
