DC passport validity Q

I'm tying myself in knots trying to figure this out, can anyone clarify?

DS child passport
issued 7 March 2018
Expires 7 July 2023

He's now 18 so his next passport will be an adult one

We want to visit Portugal over Christmas probably 23rd December - 28th December ish.

Portuguese entry requirements say

Your passport must be:
• Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
• valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

So does he need a new passport before we go? I'm a little confused because obv a child passport is only valid 5 years anyway.

Can anyone help? My brain is frazzled Confused

It's fine. Treat them as two separate questions and his passport meets both.

It's fine.

I think he does. The extra few months he currently has wont count, so the effective expiry date is 7 March 2023 which is less than three months from when you want to travel.

I thought so, thank you.
I'm a bit of a panicked and anxious traveller anyway so I was confusing myself.
Was tempted to just get a new one anyway because it sounds like they're only taking a couple of weeks to come back but if it's definitely okay I'll leave it

It's def less than 10 years old isn't it?

Actually ignore me - the ten year question is to assess whether there are extra months being added. As it's a five year passport those extra months are fine.
