What would you spend £150 on if you were/are a primary teacher

We’ve been given some money to buy some class resources with and I’ve absolutely no idea what I’m going to buy. What would be the best use of my £150? I teach 10 year olds.

Glue sticks
Many many glue sticks
Coloured card
Reading books

A lot of the arguments between children in class are caused by there not being enough stationery for every child to have a glue stick or scissors or whatever at same time.

I’d look at your classroom stationery resources and reflect on when squabbles occur, and get stuff that will reduce tension between children.

So glue sticks, basically.

Blu tac
Pens
Pencils
Calculators
Glue sticks
Staple Gun
Colored paper
Tissue paper

Could you get enough stuff to fill a pencil case for each pupil?.
Pens
Pencils
Ruler
Colouring pencils
Highlighters
Scissors
Glue stick
Pencil sharpener
Rubber

All in a nice pencil case labelled for each child.

Electronic pencil sharpener - my favourite piece of classroom kit

After that, it depends what you have / haven't got
glue sticks likely to be right up there
decent scissors - an adult pair and both left and right handed ones

Most likely I'd look in to something to make life easier for those with sensory difference ....rubber bands for the chair legs....bean filled cushion......weighted gillet .....fiddle toys......etc

Games for wet play or golden time.

Teacher87 · 21/11/2022 23:31

Thank you. Fortunately we are okay stationery wise. We have an electric pencil sharpener and you are correct, I couldn’t live without it.

I was thinking maybe some kindle fires. I could buy about 5 with Black Friday deals…unsure if they are worth it?

I wouldn't recommend Kindle Fire for use in class. Speaking from experience, far too much time is wasted on rearranging apps, going on the internet and generally not using them for reading.

With £150 I would buy some fabulous infographics books, fiction by diverse authors and with diverse characters or depending on the cost, a class subscription to First News.

An Alexa. Use it to time things, remind you of things, tell stories etc and then spend the rest on audio books for the class to listen to at downtimes
