What are your go to methods for cheering yourself up on a bad day?

Looking for inspiration after a pretty rubbish day. Nothing absolutely awful, just one of those days where everything seems to go wrong and small things build up.

I'm currently treating myself to my favourite takeaway while rewatching Motherland for a good laugh. Any other suggestions?

Deep stretch yoga to release all the tensions. Some loud music with headphones.
Body scrub in a hot shower and some body lotion to feel a bit more polished and squeaky.

I like to do a little mantra of three good things that have happened. Not big things, but little things like ‘the kids went to bed nicely’ or ‘I didn’t totally lose my shit when one of the kids dropped their drink on the carpet (again!)’ or ‘I have enough money to afford a takeout’. It just reminds me to be grateful for the things I’ve got, even if everything else feels like shit :)

For me it’s to go for a run to thrash those annoyances and grievances out and get those endorphins pinging. Then a hot shower and wine.

lollipoprainbow · 21/11/2022 19:16

Not bubble bath, nice dinner and wine '!! Most nights sadly.

lollipoprainbow · 21/11/2022 19:16

Nice**

Listening to favorite music will cheer me up normally.

NotMeNoNo · 21/11/2022 19:33

I just listened to I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue, it's the best thing that happened all day.

username8888 · 21/11/2022 19:34

A lovely hot bath.

It was funny tonight wasn't it? I didn't hear it all but it did make a difference

Thanks for this thread op. I am pretty fed up too.

Nice hot shower, then something funny on TV Flowers

Windtunnel · 21/11/2022 20:45

Good book, herbal tea, bath and sleeeep.
Maybe WhatsAapping a friend with a silly/funny message to see if you end up laughing together.

I remember my husband's expression and words when he turned on the shower and accidentally squirted himself full in the face with a load of cold water.

Always4Brenner · 21/11/2022 20:48

My cosy bedroom with talking book mind that’s every night but if feeling rubbish it’s even more cosy.

MintJulia · 21/11/2022 20:51

Hot bath, clean pjs, good book, early night.

Ragwort · 21/11/2022 20:54

Glass or two of wine, nice meal, hot bath ... not very original Grin. Peace and quiet ... banish DH to another room.

lissie123 · 21/11/2022 20:59

I have had to put today in the fuck it bucket. An unexpected argument with a colleague in front of our consultant advisors at 9am this morning spiralled downwards from there. I’m having wine, lit candles and a fire and snuggled up with the dogs. It’s a good remedy to the shit show of today.

coodawoodashooda · 21/11/2022 21:00

Hot bath, podcast and bed.

TheMorigoul · 21/11/2022 21:06

A long hot bath with oil and then a wank.

LemonSwan · 21/11/2022 21:10

Food! I go out and get to the supermarket and get all the things I fancy. Usually picky bits like antipasti type things.

Then I nestle up to watch tele and play my jigsaw game on my iPad.

OrangePomander · 21/11/2022 21:20

Hot chocolate with rum whilst wrapped in a blanket on the sofa.

Loud music to dance around the kitchen to.

Each depending on circumstance!

stargirl1701 · 21/11/2022 21:22

Good things: a bath, a book, a candle

Bad things: wine, crisps, sweets

AutumnPlaylist · 21/11/2022 21:27

Listening to music helps.

Dora26 · 21/11/2022 21:28

Lindt chocolate

It was fab, wasn't it? I find the Friday night comedy a bit hit and miss these days but ISIHAC always hits the spot.

To answer OP- early night with a camomile tea, yoga class, burning a citrussy candle, church, long walk with the dog, Ella Fitzgerald sings Cole Porter album on the Sonos.

Tomatopasta · 21/11/2022 21:35

A takeaway or comfort easy food. A cold fizzy drink and some chocolate. Hot bath, fresh clothes and new bedsheets. Best combo! Bonus for an electric blanket that’s already warmed the bed. Then listen to a bit of music or read a good book.
