How did you manage this? I’m looking inyo
hypnotherapy. Also how did you manage the anxiety in the run up to the flight? It’s killing me even thinking about it.

I have a prescription for anti anxiety medicine but I really want to manage this without the pills.

Try the Allen Carr Fear of Flying book, that made a huge difference for me.

I’ve ordered both SOAR and fear of flying. Thank you for the recommendations.

Im really keen to beat this however the timeline is not conducive to the others in my family. Especially my in laws - they think I don’t want to visit them well actually it’s not me they want to see their grandchild and son. That’s not really what it’s about- I’m struggling a lot to get into a train let alone a plane. I’m making small steps but the emotional side of this is not helping.

Quite a large number of people suffer from such fears. It's all about frightening statistics, which are often shown on television. But in fact, the plane is the safest mode of transport. Planes rarely enough can fail, and the crash victims are incredibly numerous if it happens in flight. That is why such a public response is always after such accidents. Even with a controlled flight, some people feel bad. So if you think the same, you might need such pills for nausea. To find them, you can look at www.aptekastore.com/en/festal-p-71.html. And because of reasons like this, it seems to us. That an airplane is always a risk. But in fact, things changed a long time ago.

I did the BA Flying with Confidence course 4 years ago and it really helped. Ive managed a long haul holiday since then & a few shorter flights. I still feel a bit nervous (especially when we take off) but at least now I can go on a flight which I wouldnt in the past. I also make sure that I have music & podcasts downloaded to listen to & a film or tv programme that I want to watch on my tablet so Ive got something to look forward to. I hope the hypnotherapy works well for you

I was exactly like you. I did hypnotherapy for birth with my first and then found I just naturally used some of the relaxation techniques when flying. It really does bother me now (unless it's particularly bumpy). I would imagine that hypnotherapy specifically for fear of flying would be really effective.

It really DOESN'T bother me now, that should say!

I used to be really bad and for the same reason as you - lack of control and feeling trapped. I once nearly missed a flight as I locked myself in the bathrooms having a panic attack! It used to ruin the lead up to holidays - no excitement. And the last few days would have a cloud as I ramped up the worry about getting home.

However, this may sound mad but I really enjoy flying now! I’ve travelled long haul all over the world multiple times. I travel alone a lot too.

This is what worked for me:

  • a session with an NLP hypnotherapist - this was the main thing. That hour changed my life.
  • had diazepam with me (just knowing I had them helped as I knew I had an “out” if I freaked out)
  • CBT - not for flying specifically but for panic attacks generally which taught me some good skills to stay panic free
  • Making accommodations for myself - for example I like to sit on an aisle so I feel less trapped - I do this on all transport and in theatres etc
  • Leaving myself good time for packing and getting to the airport - if you have adrenaline going because you’re rushing/late it doesn’t put you in the right place to manage fear and panic feelings
  • have a good book ready, Netflix shows downloaded etc. Good snacks. Control what you can control.

I now look at the flight as good me time! I genuinely look forward to travel now so I promise it can be done.
