Tips for moving house

We are moving for the first time in a decade next month and I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach it.

How far in advance do you start if you haven't got any spare space to stack boxes? Declutter now or when packing?

I'm planning to number boxes and keep a list of vaguely what's in each box, I.e. #1 kids shoes

Keeping an essentials box in the car with us with kettle and stuff we'll need for the first 24 hours.

How do you pack house plants for a move 🤔

Label your boxes with the room they are going to on all sides and the top so you can see it easily no matter how it is stacked.

It also helps to put a few details for your own reference so mine said Bed 2, large toys. Bed 3, telescope etc. so you know what to open in order of priority.

The last two times we have moved I have been complemented on my packing skills by the movers which was sadly quite gratifying.

Yes to decluttering. I decluttered over lockdown and got rid of even more while we were packing. It was brilliant as all the main boxes were unpacked in the first week and the only ones left were specific things we couldn't unpack yet like DS's books and pictures for the walls. I felt quite smug as some people have boxes unpacked years after moving in.

Good luck, it is horribly stressful but you'll manage.

Put cables and remotes in the same box as the electrical item. Or label the cables and put them all together in one box
