Pork loins with maple BBQ sauce glaze. Cooked two loins Friday night, about to do the other two tonight when I read the packing, which says 'use immediately after opening'. Why??

Wwyd?? Eat it or not?

I'm guessing the glaze would mask any smell.

I'd eat it, but I'd be hesitant to serve to any DC.

Just eaten a chicken schnitzel date 17 November. Tasted just fine. Taste and smell more important than labels.

LondonQueen · 20/11/2022 18:45

As long as it doesn't appear off I'd use them. Have you kept them in the fridge?

username8888 · 20/11/2022 18:47

when theyre sealed in the packaging they use a gas (carbon dioxide??) to delay any deterioration, but its not a big deal, especially if the date is still good. Its just arse covering.

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/11/2022 18:48

Factory sealed meat preserves the meat for an extended lifespan in comparison with cut unsealed meat, so the “use by” date is only guaranteed for as long as the packaging remains sealed. As long as it’s in date and has been refrigerated, it shouldn’t be a problem: if you’d bought it fresh and unpackaged from a butcher on Friday you’d still cook and eat it today, I imagine.

Fleurdaisy · 20/11/2022 18:50

As long as they’ve been kept in the fridge they’ll be fine. If they were wrapped in plastic or put in a plastic tub, even better.
Companies have to cover themselves ( hence packets of peanuts makee ‘contains nuts’) so cook as soon as opened means don’t open on Friday and leave on a plate in a warm kitchen for 48 hours, then think about cooking them.

dementedpixie · 20/11/2022 18:52

As long as they're in date and look OK I'd eat them. Pre packed cooked meats also usually say use within 3 days but we often have them days later than that as they look and smell ok

bloodywhitecat · 20/11/2022 19:01

I would eat them, I agree with the poster who said the warning is an arse covering tactic.

piedbeauty · 21/11/2022 10:10

It's been in the fridge, covered.

Thanks for all responses. We ate it and we're fine...
