Can anyone tell me what this doctor did to me?

I went in for my appointment with the colorectal surgeon and he asked to examine me

Whilst undressed from the waist down, with a chaperone, he said he was just going to put this up and have a look.

Now I felt too startled to say anything and just got on with it. It looked like a clear tube? He said it would let him look up and see

It was all over within 30 seconds by the way but I'd like to know what it was . I didn't really feel like I could ask Sad if all seemed very rushed

Can anyone tell me what it would've looked for or ruled out?

He then diagnosed polyps that need removing and I was sent on my way after signing a consent form, which the nurse had to remind him to get out!

I think he was using a sigmoidoscope to examine the lower part of your colon. It would have been polite to explain exactly what was happening, but I would also assume that something along those lines would happen at such an appointment. I wouldn't be too shocked when the doctor inserted a finger or some kind of scope, but would appreciate some warning.

Yea I don't feel violated or anything like that, just a bit confused afterwards as it was all very rush with no real explanation

He should have explained what he was doing and it wasn't great that the nurse had to remind him that he needed to get your consent. But some doctors do lack basic people skills/bedside manner, especially compared to nurses.

I know when you are in that situation it is not always easy to speak up, but it is totally ok is ask what he is doing, either before or during or after the procedure.
