Nectar points

Just wondering what you spend your nectar points on?
I seem to have accumulated quite a lot and don't know what's a good way to use them for maximum financial benefit.

Thanks!

I'm the same. I have about £120. I'll prob get something from Argos next time my kettle blows or I need new pillows.

WhiteFire · 19/11/2022 21:14

I tend to use mine in Argos, for something that I wouldn't usually get.

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 19/11/2022 21:27

I just use mine for money off my food shop. A few quid each week. Although I'm saving it up currently for my big Christmas food shop!

Oblomov22 · 19/11/2022 21:40

Always just spend on Christmas shop.

ThatDreamSheep · 19/11/2022 21:41

I always saved them for the double up event then got Christmas presents, now I don't think they do that any more so I'm stuck as well! Maybe Christmas food as well.

Jobotheclown · 19/11/2022 21:42

Christmas shop and useful for school uniform bits in the summer.

ChocHotolate · 19/11/2022 21:43

We use ours over Christmas for the nice extra food bits or maybe some new clothes.
We have a sainsburys credit card which we use for all household spending (yes, we pay it off monthly) so the points accumulate nicely over the year.

purpledagger · 19/11/2022 21:49

i'm quite chuffed, as today, i went to argos to buy OH a controller for his playstation with nectar points and it was on offer, so i was £20 cheaper than i thought.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/11/2022 22:03

Argos, eBay and Christmas stuff (ingredients, food, wine, beer etc) from Sainsbury’s. I paid £1.99 for an Amazon tablet yesterday as the majority was paid for with points.

I earn / spend a good few hundred every year.

EspeciallyD · 19/11/2022 22:08

I end up with lots as we mainly shop at Sainsburys, have car insurance and gas/electricity with them so lots of bonuses, plus I have just converted a load from Avios that I was never going to use before the exchange rate dropped last week (thank you Martin Lewis for that tip). I always used to use them in the double up sale but I mainly use them in Argos now instead, the last thing I bought with them was an electric blanket for our bed, which I might have felt was a bit extravagant to just pay for.

icecoffeeisland · 19/11/2022 22:12

I don't like to spend my Nectar points, I'm more of a hoarder. I've got about £1250 now. I very occasionally use them towards my Sainsbury's shopping if I'm a bit short of money. And I did used to take part in Double Up every year. There was an offer earlier this year where you got an extra 50% when you redeemed your Nectar points at Sainsbury's e.g. you could swap £10 of Nectar points for a £15 Sainsbury's voucher. I'll be watching out to see if they do that again.

EspeciallyD · 19/11/2022 22:19

Oh yes, I did that voucher exchange this year, I’d forgotten about that. Think I just spent it on food but still excellent value.

HappyLondonWoman · 19/11/2022 22:22

Thanks for all the replies. Seems most of you do Argos or as I thought of doing this year, the Christmas food shop.

Need to ask though, how do I find out about doubling up that some of you mentioned?

It’s always our Christmas food shop! I love getting some extra special bits with them.

Not everybody was invited to that promo (we weren't). We did get invited to Count up to Christmas at Argos and Sainsbury’s though, and have made a fair bit on this so far (£30 from Argos alone).

Double Up doesn't happen anymore. Used to be November, but they stopped it last year. Really disappointing!

plinkplinkfizzer · 19/11/2022 22:30

Like a lot of you we have been saving them for xmas food shop . Although we have been buying bits for a while like cake and pudding we will only need fresh food .

Fedupofballs · 19/11/2022 22:36

How many do you have? Converting to avios can work very well in certain circumstances if there is availability. For example we got return flights from gatwick to Crete in august 2023 for 39,000 avios (approx 25,000 nectar points) plus £500 for 4 of us. The cheapest flights we could find elsewhere were at least £1500.

feeona123 · 19/11/2022 23:07

I’m close to £500 this year. Most of it will go on Christmas food and drink and some clothes and decorations.

HappyLondonWoman · 20/11/2022 08:29

We have about £200 so not enough for avios I shouldn't think. Guess i'll keep on with Argos and Christmas food which is great, just didn't want to find out I was missing something amazing!
