Staying over at Christmas and want a Premier Inn hotel that's walking distance after a night out in the city:

Angel Street
or
St Mary's Gate

Both are the same price so just need to know which one is more in the town city

St Mary's is near the crucible it says

I stayed in St Mary’s Gate recently & it’s definitely very near the city centre.

So is it near all the bars, pubs etc?

OP posts:
Decorhate · 18/11/2022 18:13

Looking on the map they both look a similar distance from the centre, just opposite sides. I chose St Mary’s Gate as it’s closer to the uni as we were dropping off Ds.

Yankydoodledandy · 18/11/2022 18:15

Ah ok I think Angel Street maybe a tad nearer and walking distance

OP posts:
JadeSeahorse · 18/11/2022 18:16

Angel Street is actually in the centre.
St Mary's Gate is just outside but walking distance.

It really depends where in the centre you want to be really.

Shunkleisshiny · 18/11/2022 18:19

The Devonshire Quarter is less than a 10 minute walk from the Crucible, and it's jam packed with bars and restaurants, you will be spoilt for choice!!!

Yankydoodledandy · 18/11/2022 18:47

Ah ok think Angel Street will be better then. Thanks

Any Sat morninger's from Sheffield advise?

Angel street Premier inn is next to The bankers draft (rough weather spoons) and opposite castle market and the magistrates courts. As a result you have a lot of drug addicts and beggars hanging around it.

Yankydoodledandy · 19/11/2022 14:53

ah ok thanks for the heads up@AndyWarholsPiehole
So St Mary's gate is that in the city centre walking distance???

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2022 15:41

Google maps is good for all this OP. You can even use street view to see what the area looks like.

AndyWarholsPiehole · 19/11/2022 20:26

@Yankydoodledandy St Mary's gate premier inn is quite a walk away from the city centre. Arundel is the best option in terms of distance (bars and restaurants are only a 10/ 15 min walk away). There is also a tram route that stops outside of the Arundel premiere inn.

Yankydoodledandy · 21/11/2022 10:29

Arundel - this isnt showing up when I search.

I think I'll just book the Angel Street one if St Marys is too far to walk. We re just sleeping there overnight

OP posts:
AndyWarholsPiehole · 21/11/2022 10:38

Sorry, I meant to write Angel street, not Arundel Blush

Threadkillacilla · 21/11/2022 10:41

Angel st is city centre but as pp said it's near the bankers.
St Mary's is a ten min walk. Any idea where you are going?

autumn1610 · 21/11/2022 11:43

100% would not book angel street at all. Horrible and can’t imagine walking down there at night. The bars are mostly on west street and division st. It says it’s a 10mins re walk but I wouldn’t say it was or at least your wouldn’t notice it. Angel street is also a 10min walk to the main bars etc and in my opinion a rougher end of town

Yankydoodledandy · 21/11/2022 16:28

ok Im so torn not sure what to do....

So back to St Marys Street which is the other option...is this near the bars town etc.

OP posts:
Threadkillacilla · 21/11/2022 17:21

From ST Mary's gate you'd have to walk about five minutes to get to the start of the bars. From Angel st you are at the start but from the other direction.
If you don't mind rowdier bars and the tram won't bother you Angel is fine. If you want a bit quiet we and a touch classier bars st Mary's is best.

Sheffield is busy but not like Manchester or Leeds so either will be ok just one is more central.

Shunkleisshiny · 21/11/2022 17:59

Have you checked out the prices for the Leopold St Hotel in Sheffield? You couldn't be nearer the popular restaurants and bars, we stay there if we go to the City Hall.
