What does your 1 year old actually play with?

Dd is a few days away from 1, and I'd like to get her toys she'll actually enjoy.
She's pretty physical and adventurous (already toddling), and likes posting things.

Do you think one of those modular play couches would be a waste of money?

My DD recently turned one (also v.active and walking etc).

Things that have had a lot of use since her birthday are:

Galt pop up toy (she does try to use it properly but mostly just carries the little people all around the house with her 🤣)

A wooden shopping trolley for pushing toys around (although she does keep trying to climb into it)

Brio building blocks

Lots of books with flaps/mirrors/textured feely bits (the Where's Mr/Mrs books and That's Not My books are popular here)

Wooden vehicles (we have these and she loves them)

Seal flip bath toys

She also loves playing with cardboard boxes, empty water bottles, footballs, balloons, and tupperware boxes and lids. We save big 2ltr bottles for her to kick about, and sometimes fill smaller ones with pasta/rice/coloured water etc.

I had to look up the play couch - they look quite fun but I think DD would quite quickly realise it was "hers" rather than "ours", and so would lose interest after a while. She's far more interested in things she perceives as ours and would probably prefer to climb on the regular sofa.

IKEA Play kitchen,
Shopping trolley,
Wooden fruit that you can cut in half,
Animals (happy land or duplo)
Hide & Squeak eggs (my DS was never bothered but most kids go mad for them).

I wouldn’t bother with a play couch.
We take the sofa cushions off and put them on the floor sometimes… DS enjoys that.

Sometimes we add a blanket and he puts all his teddies to bed. (Probably not when he was 1… a few months older).

We have recently bought a Dova play sofa, I’d say it’s a good shout. My just turned 5 year old loves it, I wouldn’t have bought it just for him as he’s about to outgrow it but we have a 7 month old too. I’d say it’s perfect for under 5s so if you buy one you’ll get years of use I’d say.

Good thread for me as I am wondering wtf to do with this baby, she must be bored! She just rolls around all day! Giving me some good ideas for the months ahead.

Early learning centre pop it in the post game

We used to have one each teddy recipients, dog, cat, bear etc

Match letters numbers stamps etc post letters then deliver, can always do a hide and seek teddy game for delivery.

You can buy the other teddy animals as other presents perhaps?

We had this for years and in the summer hid them in the garden
