Firstly, I need to explain the shape - it is going to be like a square donut, with an enclosed courtyard. The donut will be two storey on the North side, but single storey on South, East and West sides, meaning the enclosed courtyard is warm and sunny.
The main living area will be the two storey section. This will where I will have an open plan downstairs, with a large living area, sort of kitchen/dining/ sitting room all in one. There will be a chimney in the middle, with an open fire beneath it. Upstairs here, will be three bedrooms and a bathroom, with me in the largest room, which will have a study set up in the corner.
Then we have the other 3 sides of the house to fill. These are areas that can be heated separately, and may not be used or heated all the time.
One side will be a teenager/ twenties side. Large room with multiple sofa beds, large TV, small kitchen, (mostly microwaves and large fridge!)snooker table... all friends welcome overnight , no need to worry about driving / taxis home after an evening together
One side will by gym/ indoor pool - this will probably be the south side.
The other side will be flexible - visitor accommodation/ science space - it will have an openable roof and telescope , and there will be star watching...there will also be at least 2 bird watching spots, a big window, looking out onto trees , bird boxes and bird feeding stations. And another spare bathroom, luxury bath, shower. Utility room will probably also be here, spare freezer, washing machine, drying space
The garden will be large, but not impossible. There will be space for camping, a fire pit, trees, lots of bird boxes and bird feeding stations, a pond ( safely fenced off) birdfeeders, also an outdoor toilet and sink - so I can offer the land for use of local brownie and cub camps for free,
And the enclosed courtyard will be for sitting, and also a safe place for rescue hedgehogs to recover before release
My house will be on a hill, with a steam flowing down through the garden, and nice views. It will also be a short, safe walk from town, shops, buses, trains, church, schools, pubs, etc
I don't think it is possible to improve on this, but by all means, give it a go!
