40th Birthday Present Ideas for DP

I'm struggling to think of ideas for a 40th birthday present for DP, partly because I am due with our first baby in 2 days so my mind is a bit blank for other things.

As it's a "big birthday" I'd quite like to get him something nice, aside from a baby!

He's into golf and cycling but realistically has most things he needs for that. I like the idea of one of those framed pictures that say things like "the stars the night you became my daddy" but baby might not arrive until his birthday (which falls on 42 weeks exactly) so there might not be time.

Any ideas for nice, novel things anyone has seen would be greatly appreciated.

Not being funny but I'd hate a framed picture of words for any birthday let alone a big one. Surely there is something he'd love that isn't related to those two hobbies. A trip somewhere together before baby comes? Like a weekend break?

Fair enough. I'm ideally trying to think of something NOT related to the two hobbies, not least because he's very particular about his kit for them and I don't know enough to know what's good and what isn't.

There isn't really time for a weekend away, the baby is due in 2 days. Obviously might well not arrive then but going away somewhere at this point doesn't feel like a wise move.

It may not be the big surprise you plan but maybe he wants something special for his hobbies?

When DH turned 50 he got a very rare model locomotive, he wanted it for ages but it was quite costly as it was vintage. He sent me links and exact model numbers etc and I hunt it down for him.

For me it's more about something the person really wants, even if he/she knows what it will be, then something I may like and would give.

I bought mine a personalised number plate with his and the kids initials on as his gift and then booked a glamping weekend for us all with a show and dinner. My partner is notoriously difficult to buy for and was genuinely delighted with the above.

I got my husband 39 small presents (things from poundland) and 1 big gift and that was a gift voucher from the local tri-store.
