Verified by Visa payment failures -card keeps getting blocked

For the last three or four weeks - since changes appear to have happened with the Verfied by Visa online payment verification process - my visa card keeps getting blocked when I go to check out online. It is at the verified by visa part of the checkout it then says verified by visa failed.....I have sufficient funds in the account each time (I can seen via the banking app). I am banking with the Coop bank, and it seems to happen mostly with Morrisons or Tesco websites.
Each time I have rung the bank which has put me through to the Verified by Visa dept who inform me that the VbV process has somehow led to the transaction appearing suspicious then they block the card. But these are very normal transactions for me, and there has been no suspicious activity on my account or attempts of fraud. Each time I have called, they have unblocked the card and it works for a few days, then hey ho again this evening, as I am trying to add some things to my (already placed) Morrisons shop and check out again, yet again the VbV bit fails and it looks like my card is blocked again.
I literally have no idea what is going on but it is driving me up the wall. I will have to ring the bank again tomorrow to get them to unblock my card. Third time this has happened in the last few weeks.
Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues?

My husband has had the same problem, and also banks with Co-Op. He’s also had the same conversation with the bank several times, which of course includes having to spend ages on hold. It’s incredibly frustrating with no information about when the issue is going to be fixed.

Bank not very helpful.

I've taken up to 2 hours to make 1 transaction.

Same here, also Co-op and Morrisons. I haven't phoned them yet and don't think I'll bother now. Luckily I have a Halifax card which I can use for online shopping instead.

Weirdly I always used to have problems with Co-op and Asda. One lot of money would be reserved for my shopping, but a second lot would actually be taken instead of the first amount, so the first would be sat pending in my account for several days till it got put back in my account.

I’ve had the same buying normal low cost things. It’s very frustrating and just like OP and others, have had to go through the rigmarole of ringing up the bank.

what really winds me up is that anyone can get hold of my card go to a supermarket or large store and tap it for £100 worth of stuff, but I can’t buy less than that amount on a online transaction!

I have had the same problem trying to check out with Morrisons and Waitrose after shopping online with both for years with no issues until recently. After long calls to Morrisons and Barclays it is apparently (I think) because I don't have the banking app, something to do with verification. Tesco and Sainsburys and all other sites I've shopped on still fine. I'll sort it at some point but do feel rather resentful about the situation and lack of help.

I had it with Tesco credit card. When I got through to them, they said that online authentication had been blocked. He clicked a button and it was sorted.

Update - after calling the bank today and insisting I speak to someone who can tell me what is going on, eventually I spoke with one of the managers in Verfied by Visa who took a look at my account and expressed he thinks the issue is mainly caused by the VbV being a bit oversensitive, and how the Morrisons website behaves when you make changes to your shopping order - that Morrisons puts it through as a new transaction each time, so this triggers the VbV to think it is a series of transactions in a short space of time, which it deems suspicious. Apparently other supermarket websites don't trigger this as much as they don't put order updates through as new transactions each time.
He said he has seen a number of customers ringing with the same issue when trying to check out of the Morrisons website and VbV failing.
So it seems a combination of Morrisons website behaviour triggering an over-sensitive VbV. An interesting explanation but doesn't really help me a lot. My card was unblocked again today and works now, but I was told it may keep happening "until VbV learns my shopping patterns".....so it seems I have to either put up with it or food shop elsewhere. I rang Morrisons after, to try to flag the problem to them, they were not interested.

I had this too and had to call them to set up a new password - they won't let you do it online. I did say to the guy it was ludicrous I couldn't do it online. I was on hold for about 45 minutes as well.

I have to say I have not tried to use my card online at a new website since I changed the password - only on sites I've used before. So I don't know if I'll have problems.

I had this same issue with a COOP card, and was often unable to get through by phone to sort. I've got myself a new credit card with another company, transferred the balance and cancelled the COOP card. No problems at all until they put the Verified by VISA thing in!

i had this and it’s to do with them changing the password thingy and them not having my mobile phone number. It’s all sorted now just by adding my mobile phone so they can text.

Just coming back to report back that I used a different website the other day with my Coop (Smile) card and it worked fine.

Tempted to get rid of my Nationwide account though, their insistence on the card reader for every little transaction is really annoying. Tried to send £10 the other day to an existing payee but couldn't without the card reader.

Had the same last night with an, admittedly very big, Amazon order. Only resolved by changing to credit card. I’m waiting for a reply from Smile / Coop as to why and if there’s a problem with the card.

I rang coop today as both my mum and I are having issues, you l know it's bad when the options are press 1 if you are struggling to make online payments, I had no verified by visa password on my account which is possibly why I'm having the problem
They said it's a new anti fraud thing they just switched on recently

Just open an online account like Monzo. Transfer £200 pound to it and use that card to shop. That would drive me insane .
