I'm a teacher looking for a career change - I know it can be done as always hearing about ex-teachers but I've only ever applied for teaching posts. Anyone mind telling me the job hunt process from start to a job offer?

What subjects do you specialize in?

What skills are you good at or enjoy most? We’ve had ex-teachers join as junior project managers then promoted quickly or as team leaders because they had good people skills. Digital skills are in short supply etc. there’s lots of free or cheap courses online to brush up entry skills like business analysis or project management.

Would you consider a governess role? A nanny who teaches essentially, can command a very good salary.

Your best course would be to register with agencies who place governesses, and you'd already have experience in managing behavioural issues.

This of course all depends on your life situation, kids etc

Thanks for all your replies.

I've already got an idea of the area I'd like to move into my problem is that applying for teaching jobs is a very specific process of filling in an application form and writing a personal statement of about 2 sides of a4 detailing how you meet the person spec with examples.

At the moment I'm just on indeed and sending a cv, which I'm tailoring to each advert. There's no space for a personal statement or cover letter.

So what I'm asking is literally what are the steps you took from job hunting to submitting an application?
