Unwell 12 year old home alone

DS had a cough and was feeling unwell yesterday. Left him home with a packed lunch and snacks watching TV with blanket on sofa. Checked on him at lunchtime. When I got home later he was burning hot and had gone to bed feeling unwell. Temperature came down and I've been in to check on him just how and feels ok. Would you stay home with him tomorrow?

Has he spent any time home alone previously? I think this would factor in to my decision.

Yes - during school holidays. Usually loves getting the house and TV remote to himself. Was a bit glum yesterday though.

If you are in the uk and it’s nearly 4am are you going to be in a fit state to even go into work?

Would not consider leaving any of mine when they were that age and had had a high temp, no.

Can you work from home? Take sick leave? Get a family member to babysit?

By law you can get unpaid leave for emergency childcare.

Hope your dc feels better soon!

If he's similar in morning I think I'd stay home and keep an eye on him.

If he's the same in the morning stay home. X

Going to stay home. He's just been awake really hot again. Think leaving him yesterday was poor judgement.

Far, far, farrrrr too young. I burnt my parent's house down when I was left alone at 13

Don’t give yourself a hard time. Unfortunately our sick days are limited, and it’s well and good to say our children come first but the reality is we go to work because we have to. You used your judgement yesterday and it was an ok call, he was fine. A temp means he’s fighting something.
