I've found out why so many zombie threads are being resurrected. And it's MNHQ's fault

Now, when you read a thread, there a list of 'threads you might like' at the bottom. And they're old. So people are seeing titles that look interesting, clicking on them and responding.

I was on the one about the mum who wanted her son to let her know about his flights, and below the last post is a link to one about a girl moaning about her mum wanting to know her travel details. But it's six months old. Presumably that's happening all over the place

Thanks to this thread, the 'You might also like' function is recommending zombie threads about zombie threads. How very meta.

My list of threads I might be interested in are all linked to whatever thread I am reading…very odd !

Um, that's the whole point.

Oooooh, spooky Grin. It's almost like they planned it that way.

I've only just seen the "You might also like" feature. How long has it been around?

Itwasntevenblackpudding · 15/11/2022 18:37

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

A much better worded response than mine 😁

Repeatedly redirecting threads from 2007 about new born babies etc isn't really the same as contributing to an old thread from 1/2/3 years ago though. The 2007 troll was the problem not the more recent 'older' threads.

Definitely getting frustrated by these threads as they’re creeping into trending. I want to talk to the op, not an echo chamber, which it is often when threads are older. Even this one hasn’t been posted on for 2 days.

And I came to this thread from an MNHQ thread on site stuff.

This is what I’ve found most annoying about it so far. It increases the noise on the board and makes them harder work.

With this, trending is full of stale threads, leaving less room for more interesting ones.

It also means you get more threads where you start reading, it looks interesting but then you find it’s years old, been resurrected and a new slew of people have just rehashed the same responses but OP isn’t even around to engage anymore. It’s a lower quality experience (and I’m aware how mad that sounds when you’re talking about AIBU, but it’s still true!).
