How much for these to be made for a buffet party….

Our Church is doing a large buffet for a Christmas party on 17th December and I am doing 150 sausage rolls (100 meat/50 non meat).
Using ready made pastry, sausage meat, veg sausages and a few other bits like grated cheddar, caramelised onions, seasonings, eggs for glazing, etc), how much would you expect the ingredients to cost you? I’m going with £30, DMIL says £50.00! I’d be buying the Heck veggie sausages and probably a decent Supermarket sausagemeat.

Picnic size or more like a greggs size? I'd say more than £50 easily.

Are you thinking the little bite size ones? If using heck sausages I'd guess about £40

How big will they be? How many sausages/sausage sized bits of meat will you use per roll? I would assume that 1 (veggie) sausage would do 2 rolls, or will they be smaller? Just looking at price of sausage meat (Tesco Finest), it's £2.85 per 350g. The normal (not Finest) is a little bit cheaper. If that makes 10 mini sausage rolls, that's £42.75 for 150 rolls. Obviously, this doesn't include vegetarian sausages, but I expect the price will be similar. And then it's pastry, extra bits.

For the vegetarian ones, could you do something besides 'sausage' in the sausage rolls. For example, you could do 50/50 pork sausage rolls and then something like roasted butternut squash/caramelised onion rolls, which would be cheaper than vegetarian sausages. And probably nicer too.

I think your MIL is closer to it.

I’m well out aren’t I 🤣 I tend to add cheddar to the veggie ones and also some of the meat ones along with onion too. I tend to go for about the size of a Greggs cut into 3 at most.

If it helps at all I get 16 small sausage rolls out of a pack of pre rolled puff pastry and 6 butcher’s pork sausages

Stompythedinosaur · 16/11/2022 00:25

I think £50 is a fair guess.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/11/2022 00:27

Assuming you are making mini ones, if full sized they'll be a fair bit more!

You could drop the costs of the veggie ones by using a different filling rather than premade veggie sausages - potato cheese and onion works pretty well and is much cheaper.

I make my own sausage rolls. Greggs size cut into 4

I make the sausage meat and use block puff pastry. You can get 48 sausage rolls from 500g pork mince and 2 packs block puff pastry.

If you want to know what I do let me know
