Has anyone used the Elizabeth line much?

From Stratford to Paddington.

By my calculations, it saves about 30 mins on my old journey, but the TFL journey planner doesn't suggest it for that trip, so I'm wondering if there's something that makes it a bad idea?

Try it and see?

I live next to one of the Elizabeth lines station and use it for 90% of my TFL journeys now.

If it's quicker, use it.

Use the citymapper instead of TFL. Much better.

RulesofLiveTV · 15/11/2022 13:02

Well yes, but if it doesn't work I miss my train at Paddington.

TFL route planner never makes sense. There is a direct bus from the tube station to my son’s college. No matter what options we select it tells us to get two buses.

I would try it yourself and not rely on what route planner suggests.

I have used it a few time. The problem I have with it is that it is vast and often a whole level down than the other lines so it physically takes longer to get to the platforms in the first place which wastes time. It is my choice of last resort for going to, say, Bond Street.

Are you looking at a journey in the future or for today? I think there are some weekend engineering works planned. There was an email from TfL about it a couple of weeks ago.

Have you tried the TFL GO app? It’s much better than the old journey planner. See pic - it even knows about the Lizzy Line :)

Have you got the TFL app set to 'routes with the fewest changes' that can result in being sent a longer then necessary route.

JorisBonson · 15/11/2022 13:20

Yes, it's fabulous. I'm in deepest darkest SE London so much needed. It's very reliable and comes every few minutes.

What do you mean "if it doesn't work"? If the line is open and running, it works. Same with all the other lines. Just check service status before you leave.

TFL suggests the liz line to me for that journey, if I was travelling now

The TFL website recommends you the quietest route for the time you say you’re travelling, and will also factor in days/ times the liz line may not be running or running less frequently eg Sundays

You can set the TFL search preferences to only show Elizabeth line in your results, so try that for the day/time you’re wanting to travel to check it’s running then
