Bamboo socks: does everyone else have this problem?

I really wanted to be more sustainable so for the last couple of years I've bought bamboo socks for the family. But they get holes in them in about half the time of other socks. I do find them comfy (though tbh no comfier than decent quality socks of cotton/nylon mix) but I'm fed up now of having to replace them so often. Do others have the same problem?

Had some from TKMaxx and went through the toes on first or second wear with them. Tried again with some from Costco (Green treat brand) and they are so much better much thicker and my current favourite sock brand. Have probably been wearing the Costco ones for a year now.

I only wear BAM socks and also find this op. I love them so I just replace them every so often. I do put them in the dryer in the winter though as they take so long to dry! Not sure if that speeds up getting holes.

I've got some bamboo tops, the fabric is lovely and soft and drapey, but it quickly makes my skin feel greasy/slimy. Worse than polyester IMO.

I had some from seasalt. Expensive and so so soft. But they wore badly and went to holes. So sad.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 14/11/2022 18:35

Got some from Swole Panda last week, I hope they last longer than some PPs have been saying...

Sarah113731 · 19/11/2023 18:30

Yes, bamboo socks last only a month or two before they get holes in the toes, unlike all other socks I have ever had.

Sea salt ones have lasted me and DH years but are £££. Get the striped ones in a box

Try wool socks, for sustainable socks.

Howies and John Arbon socks are lovely.
or walking socks

or make friends with a knitter and try hand knitted wool socks. Or learn to knit.

Yes. I love BAM socks, they’re really comfy and they’re the only trainer socks I’ve had that don’t slip down, but I’ve had to darn the toes of all of them multiple times, and the older ones have gone threadbare at the heels as well.

limefrog · 19/11/2023 18:37

I have some BAM socks I bought about 3 years ago and they are going strong.

BrandNewBicep · 19/11/2023 18:40

I love bamboo socks for comfort, but find mine wear out very quickly, regardless of the brand.

Daffyyellow · 19/11/2023 18:52

I wear knee length bamboo socks, from Sock Shop, daily through the winter. I haven’t had a problem with them wearing through quickly.

RoseGoldEagle · 19/11/2023 18:54

Have found exactly this with Sock Shop ones- comfy and soft (and so easy for my toddlers/small kids to pull on), but gets holes so easily, and have given up on their tights (had a few pairs that got holes in after a day of wear- to be fair the company were good at refunding them. I might try BAM. Any recommendations for where to get good wool ones?

Zephirine · 19/11/2023 18:55

I agree with you OP. I’ve got a long second toe and they always go through the sock in record time.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 19/11/2023 18:56

I’ve had a couple of pairs from Thought and they only lasted a few wears.

QuestionableMouse · 19/11/2023 18:56

Guys this thread was started in 2022!!

whatapalavaaa · 01/12/2023 21:20

Same. I only wear BAM socks but they wear quickly. Still last a few years and I tumble them during the colder months as they take so long to dry which probably doesn't help!

Sockhunter · 25/05/2025 08:21

Bought bamboo socks a couple of times went into holes within hours of being put on. Wonderful colours but just do not last.
