Do you close the door after an appointment??

Just that really - just curious - I'm sat in a waiting room realising that I never know whether or not to close the door as I leave the practitioner's room at an appointment at (for example) the hospital, doctors, physio, etc.. what do you guys do?

I close it and knock on the door. I've never gone to the room and found it open so I suspect it's normal to close the room.

PeekAtYou · 14/11/2022 10:45

I knock on the door when I arrive- not when I leave.

If it was kept open during the appointment I don't close it, but this tends to only happen at the dentist. If it's closed during the appointment I close it

I think I tend to ask what they prefer, on my way out...

"I close it and knock on the door."

Eh? Why would you knock on a door you just closed?

Sandysandwich · 14/11/2022 11:03

If it was closed when I got there, I would close it after myself.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/11/2022 11:06

Yes. I knock on the door when I arrive and close it when I leave.

EBearhug · 14/11/2022 11:14

I usually close it at the doctor, but at the dentist, he tends to hold the door open for me. It would be odd to wrestle it our of his hands and slam it in his face... I would say if I have to open it, I'll close it again, but if it's open, I'll leave it open. Although I'm not sure I think about it much, so maybe I do something different in practice that just hasn't lodged in my head.

Ciaonow · 14/11/2022 11:16

Knock when I arrive, close when I leave.

singleone · 14/11/2022 11:16

I pull it over behind me I don't necessarily close it properly. I assume there's paperwork or something to tidy up after each appointment and closing the door over gives a bit privacy to do that.

ScrambledOrPoached · 14/11/2022 11:17

I pull it ‘to’ behind me.

SockQueen · 14/11/2022 11:20

I actually have no idea!

whatllitbeeeee · 14/11/2022 11:20

I always ask the gp/dentist etc what they'd prefer.

Ifailed · 14/11/2022 11:20

No, I expect the Dr to get up from her desk and close it for me, it's not like she's got something more important to do, is it?

MavisChunch29 · 14/11/2022 11:21

Yes, usually, if it was closed when I arrived. If unsure I ask on leaving.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/11/2022 11:37

I always ask.

gorillalala · 14/11/2022 19:34

Hah thanks for all the answers.

In my mind I'm usually called in by the man/woman standing in the open doorway (I never notice whether is was open before that or not, I.e. what the last patient did) - so no knocking required.

And when I leave, it's always at the point that I say 'bye' and on my way out I'm like 'oh bugger what do I do' and I pull it mostly closed but not all the way as it feels weird to shut them in the room Grin and it's never occurred to me before to actually just turn around and ask!!!!

From now on I will just ask!

On the way out I just say "do you want me to close the door?" and do whichever one they request. Simples.
