Passport Application - stupid mistake

I've just done my son's passport application online. His old passport ran out nearly 2 years ago.

I've just realised - by seeing the confirmation email - that I have spelt his name wrong.

Is there anything I can do?

Could l send a cover note when I return the old passport? Could the person who confirms his photo do anything?

Anyone?
Massively panicking here. We don't have anything booked, but would like to go abroad at Easter. Passport office says to allow 10 weeks. I really don't want to have to apply again as soon as his new passport arrives and wait another 10 weeks.

This passport will take him though to being 19, so it will be proper ID for him for a while, so the spelling mistake does matter.

I made an error of my dd birth date

I rang and they said send a cover letter, with detail of error and correction , plus they can see it on the old passport too
