I believe there is a street fairly near Kings Cross, I think I used to see it as I walked down Euston Road, that still has old style shops and barbers, perhaps cobbled, tourist attraction. I always used to see it and think one day I will go down there. But I am searching online and cannot find anything about this road. i am sure it's well known. But the lack of any online info makes me think I am making it up!

its not near Euston Road but it was the first place that popped into my head with your description so wondered if you’d merged two memories together.

Could it be Duke's Rd? It's just off Euston Rd, the turning before the big church on the corner

If near Kings Cross I also think you’re thinking of Lambs Conduit Street.
