Quick question, codeine and co-codamol alternately.

I've been give codeine (30mg) to take every four hours, along with paracetamol in between. The paracetamol is useless and I'm in severe pin, could I take the codeine first thing and before bed, the use co-codamol.

I wouldn't be overdosing on codeine and definitely not on paracetamol, if I don't take it separately.

I can't see how taking it is an issue, as its lower codeine and paracetamol is paracetamol.

Give and example schedule with quantities and someone can tell you.

What strength cocodamol?

It sounds like and OD of codiene

8pm 2x 30mg Codiene
10pm 2x co - codamol 30mg+500mg
12pm 2x30mg codiene

This is too much.

It isn't very clear what you are asking.
There is codeine in co-codamol. You can't overlap co-codamol and simple codeine.

Sorry you are in so much pain. Is ibuprofen an additional option?

If it is dental pain, check if you can use heat packs. I found these far better than paracetamol.

Battlecat98 · 13/11/2022 10:27

Hi what dose is the co codamol? You can take 240mg codiene in 24 hours although should be short term. Can you add ibuprofen.

The codeine is 1x 30mg tablets. The co-codamol is 8mg codeine. I've not been told to take 2 codeine tablets.

It's for joint fusion, I had a nerve block in my leg, which has worn off and is agony

Not allowed ibuprofen, as asthmatic and on Fragmin.

So it would be 1x30mg at 7am(ish), 2 co-codamol at midday, maybe more at 6pm, then 1x30mg codeine at 12pm.

SylvanianFrenemies no joint fusion. I can't walk to get anything, I'm rubbish on crutches and can't weight-bearing, so can't fetch anything trying to hop in crutches (very wobbly).

Codeine works much better with paracetamol so why not just take 1 codeine every 4 hours with 2 paracetamol? But no more than 4 doses of paracetamol in 24 hours

This would be fine although I'm not sure why you have been told to only take one 30mg codeine tablet?

Tyrozet · 13/11/2022 10:39

Why do you think taking co-codamol with 8mg of codeine is better than taking 30mg of codeine?

nothingevergoesright · 13/11/2022 10:42

Actually 2 co-codamol has less codeine than 1 codeine tablet, so I can't see how I'd overdose, by taking less codeine than prescribed (its for when I'm on my own. I've got a commode as physios agreed it would be safer than me going upstairs alone on crutches), I don't want to be too woozy if alone, so 1xcodeine morning and night, with one dose of co-codamol would probably be enough. I'm aware I've made lots of typos/grammatical errors, apologies.

I would not take more codeine than recommended, it is very addictive.

Harrysnippleno3 · 13/11/2022 10:43

Oh I have misunderstood your post completely.

SunsetGirl · 13/11/2022 10:53

I don't like being "out of it" on codine either, so when I needed it, I halved the 30mg tablet. (So similar to taking 2x 8mg cocodamol.
