Anyone had belly pains with covid?

Chloefairydust · 13/11/2022 01:37

So my partner has been showing head cold symptoms the past few days, but his symptoms started getting worse so he did a covid test and he tested positive for covid last night. He has been saying though he’s been getting really bad stomach ache pointing to his lower belly area (I guess large bowel area) and he keeps feeling nauseous …

Now I haven’t had covid for a couple of years but I don’t remember this being a symptom when I had it? Anyone else get this? Or could there be something else going on with him?

His symptoms almost seem more like a stomach bug now, can covid do this?

I’m my experience, yes.

I’ve had Covid twice and both times I had crippling stomach pains.

menareallthesame · 13/11/2022 04:20

First time, no. This time (last week) I did yes. Apparently it’s a new symptom.

Maybe covid is somehow morphing into a stomach bug… Is scary how fast that virus changes, I’m sure it’s not a natural virus.

How long does it take to start feeling better with the latest strain of covid?

He’s had it since Wednesday and his symptoms seem to be getting worse rather than better…🙁

I feel really bad because I though he was just being dramatic about having a head cold but he had covid the whole time bless him🤦‍♀️

I had stomach issues from the first time I got it and I think it was actually discussed in the press as lots of people had it but it wasn’t on the official list of symptoms . I think the list of symptoms have now been updated but I’ve had it twice, different strains because when I got it the second time it was when the newer stain was prevalent, but both times I had stomach pains and digestion issues.

Itstheimplication · 13/11/2022 04:45

Oh and it took me a good ten days to start feeling better. After about five I felt worse then started to pick up a bit

Aposterhasnoname · 13/11/2022 04:46

Oh me! The stomach pains were the worst bit. Took about a week to feel better, but the coughing hung around for nearly a month.

SecondaryPreparation · 13/11/2022 05:18

DD had projectile vomiting! Stomach pains and vomiting with a note it was more common in children were on the list of symptoms where I live, although iirc not on the Uk list of symptoms.

daretodenim · 13/11/2022 06:24

Stomach pains and upset stomach were in the early list of rarer symptoms.

I just had covid again and this time had those symptoms too. Also had every other symptom, rotating in a daily basis!!

Bloody virus.

I hope your DH feels better soon.

Chocchops72 · 13/11/2022 06:30

Yes. Have had Covid three times, each time the stomach cramps / indigestion were the worse symptom for me. In fact, the third time I got it I realised what it was when I thought I had a cold - but found myself getting up in the middle of the night for Gaviscon. Tested positive a day or so later 🤷‍♀️

Chloefairydust · 13/11/2022 08:30

Hmm seems to be a common symptom then?

Do the covid stomach cramps feel like indigestion? Or is it more like tummy ache?

Yes I did second time round I had it. My c section scar was aching, round down to my vulva area, like a tight sharp pain, along with general body aches. I also had diarrhoea a couple of times, but I felt much bigger quicker than I did the first time I had it.

biddyboo · 13/11/2022 08:58

I had covid for the first time in August. At first I thought it was a bad headcold, but it was the nausea that prompted me to do a covid test. When I have a cold, I normally get the munchies, but I couldn't face eating and was very nauseous. It also made me feel like I had really bad guts for a while afterwards. I ate lots of kefir etc and took probiotics, and I'm back to normal now. Apparently, it can linger on in the digestive tract for some people.

reluctantbrit · 13/11/2022 08:59

Second time we got it back in February this year, I "only" had the stomach pain but DD threw up everytime she tried to eat something.

I think she went for 2 days just with liquids in very small doses.

It took ages to feel normal again and enjoy eating.

biddyboo · 13/11/2022 09:00

Just to add, an upset stomach seems to be a more common symptom for young children than traditional cold symptoms. It's definitely been the case with my children and their friends.

Littleoxforddictionary · 13/11/2022 09:01

Yes, lower stomach pain was the worst symptom. I thought it may have been terrible trapped wind from gulping air when coughing, it was bad for a couple of days.

RowanAspenOak · 13/11/2022 09:04

My mother in law (86) had this as her only symptom. She didn’t get a cough at all.

Lilypeony · 13/11/2022 09:12

I had terrible stomach pains with covid. Unfortunately I’m still having ‘attacks’ of the same pains 4 months later.. along with terrible hair loss :(

I didn’t even know hair loss was a symptom of covid… Better not tell DH that! 🫣

Stomach ache was one of my only symptoms, along with tiredness - I didn't even realise it was covid for a few days because of it. It felt like a spasm/sharp pain to me.

MakingNBaking · 13/11/2022 10:01

My MIL (85) told me last night that her recent covid had 'certainly changed my toilet habits'. That is as specific as she got, and actually about as much info as I needed thank you.
So it's not uncommon.

This is how DH describes it, sharp pains…

He hasn’t pooped for 3 days so I was worried the pains might be constipation but seeing peoples replies here I guess it’s just covid 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, few weeks ago and started with tummy issues. Awful cramps, some loose BM and feeling nauseous. Then for me the coldy symptoms came a day or two later

CrotchetyQuaver · 13/11/2022 10:35

I had an awful stomach thing which Ive never been prone to about 10 days ago. I felt dreadful, couldn't really eat and had to go to bed early. All very out of character for me! Dreadful griping pain and aching lower belly muscles, half the time I was walking round doubled over. Thankfully it passed after a few days.
