My 5y/o DD has been writhing around in pain for the last hour. She has had calpol and I literally have no idea how to ease the discomfort and get her settled again :( Any advice?

111 for OOH GP assessment.

Place a hot flannel over the ear, like a compress. Poor little thing, ear infections are horrible. See if you can get to a walk in centre for some antibiotics in the morning.

Is she on antibiotics yet?
A warm hot water bottle next to ear.
If the cause of the pain has been diagnosed and is being treated you can give nurofen too.

Ibuprofen is best for this. My dd was screaming in pain and was advised this was better than calpol when called the out of hours.

111 are stretched but it's what you need right now. Meds you've given will work soon and take the edge off.

Give nurofen if you haven't already and call 111 for advice, might need antibiotics. Ear infections are horrible, I hope she's better soon.

Dd5 gets them often, Ibuprofen instead of paracetamol works better for her. Flannel or compress. If struggling to sleep if she as an infection I will either snuggle up with her and read a good book to her until she drifts off or have even taken her down to watch something and she drifts off and I take her up after she’s drifted off. Dh often puts motor racing on, on mute works a treat. I used to suffer terribly with them as a kid and always found distraction helped as it was so painful.
