Why do they feel the need to jazz it up? A beautiful hymn that they played too fast. They made it sound as if Luke Evans couldn’t sing, he showed his talent in the last note. THEN the service people walked into an even jazzier version, awful.

Some things are better being traditional and for me IVTTMC is one of them!

Sitting here saying exactly the same thing. It's not a west end performance!

Evenstar · 12/11/2022 21:42

It’s just getting worse, why on earth if you have Andrea Bocelli singing would you give him a song that sounds like something from The Greatest Showman

Reallycomplicatedpants · 12/11/2022 21:50

The music isn't at its best tonight.

CaronPoivre · 12/11/2022 21:55

Dreadfully arranged.

MarigoldPetals · 12/11/2022 21:57

Because lots of people like it OP.

Evenstar · 12/11/2022 22:02

The music for the drums being carried to make the drumhead altar is totally out of keeping, such a solemn moment

unfortunateevents · 12/11/2022 22:04

Yes it's all a bit West End this year isn't it?

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 12/11/2022 22:05

Totally inappropriate - we've all just been saying exactly the same.

Reallycomplicatedpants · 12/11/2022 22:13

I think its misjudged this year.

Snowdropsarelovely · 12/11/2022 22:15

I agree, somehow it doesn't seem as solemn and respectful as other years

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2022 22:17

They do often have lighter things — the Squadronaires for example — but this year it has all seemed a bit too light somehow.

unfortunateevents · 12/11/2022 22:26

What on earth - we appear to be in some kind of mindfulness session now?

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 12/11/2022 22:27

FFS.

maximist · 12/11/2022 22:27

That was very....odd.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2022 22:27

And now somebody's got a guitar out...

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 22:28

Yes I thought it wasn't very somber when I saw it earlier

Evenstar · 12/11/2022 22:29

That woman doing the “reading” was done up like a Disney Princess and Hallelujah rather than a hymn 🤯

2Rebecca · 12/11/2022 22:29

Have we been taken over by American schmalz? Awful

ochnanoch · 12/11/2022 22:36

And she was singing Hallelu -L -jah... How can nobody have told her she was pronouncing the main word in the song wrong!!!!!

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/11/2022 22:42

My grandfather, Edward Beard, fought at The Battle of the Somme at the age of 17.
I welcome his remembrance, whatever form it takes.

unfortunateevents · 12/11/2022 22:04

You know that face you make when you do the weighing up motion with your hand, I am making that face whilst saying less West End more Pub Singer.

Billoddiesbeard · 12/11/2022 22:58

Glad it wasn't just us. DH and I were both saying it some how felt a bit "Disney" this year. I like the solemnity and respectfulness that is normally portrayed much better. I hope this year was a one off and it reverts back next year.

MrsSkylerWhite 🌺

And for the man who urged me to apply for my veteran’s badge as my service was just as important as his.

He was a survivor of St Valery.

Jimmy. May you rest well. 🌺

We all owe them so much.

This year was a bit preachy (lady with the big earrings).I want to remember and give thanks not be told to be kind. It felt disrespectful to the fallen, some of whom couldn't be kind, thats the nature of the job.

It definitely felt more of a show this year, not so much of a respectful thank you.
