Fat quarter sewing project ideas?

Hi!
Are there any sewers about who want to share inspiration for smallish Christmas themed sewing projects?

I've just brought ( yet another) pack of Christmassy fat quarter fabric Blush despite the fact I have lots of fabric and no sewing projects in mind so am looking for inspiration!!

I've already made little fabric gift bags, placemats, a table runner and little pocket thingies for cutlery and I can't think of any other little projects I'd like to do..I would really like to use my fabric though Grin

So what have you guys being sewing in the run up to Christmas?

Have a look at ‘Sewn on the Tyne’ on YouTube, Tamlyn also blogs about her ideas I think.

I will have a look now thank you!

Cushion covers are nice to make and reasonably fast. I made some for my mum last year.

Christmas bunting if they match your room decor.

Make up bags/pencil cases with a zip top.
If you know anyone who knits then you could make project bags, I make all mine with two fat quarters.

Oh yes I meant to add, I've made bunting too 😅
I hadn't thought about cushions though, I've not made a cushion cover since my secondary school sewing project, but I could give it a go!!

Why are they called fat quarters? I keep seeing them and wanting to get some but I'm not sure how big they are!

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/11/2022 21:45

Garland/bunting? I made some tiny bunting with scandi-type fabric a few years ago and it makes me happy every year when it comes out of the loft.
Patchwork tree skirt?

If they cut a standard quarter meter you'd end up with a narrow long strip. A fat quarter is half a meter that's then cut in half width wise so you end up with a square(ish) piece of fabric rather than a strip.

For Xmas stuff you could make a patchwork Xmas tree skirt, table runner or cushion covers.

I've made little tree decorations or small stuffed Xmas trees with a hanging ribbon and a small scrap of fabric inside with drops of essential oils on. I like orange and clove oil or cinnamon to make them smell seasonal.

My favourite thing to make with FQs is tote bags or zipped make up bags.

Mochudubh · 12/11/2022 21:59

I just bought some Autumn themed FQs in Aldi so hoping for some inspiration. I borrowed some books from the library but nothing makes me go "Ooh, I want to make that"!

Oh! I see that makes sense. Thank you. I shall buy them now!

I'm going to make lavender bags

TicketToRideFan · 12/11/2022 22:15

This is my favourite, not least cause there is no sewing, so you can make them while watching the telly!
