Mattress - every ten years or so?
Duvet - I’ve bought two this year, but more because I’m trying to find the ‘right’ one rather than consciously replacing another
Pillows - I’ve been using this one for about six years. It definitely needs replacing, but I can’t find anything else I like as much.

Use pillow protectors and pillows last longer but usually change annually

started to use washable duvets now as I was going through one a month on average - medical issues

greenacrylicpaint · 11/11/2022 22:37

Duvets - we replaced all our feather/down duvets with synthetic ones (allergies) about 10 years ago. we wash them once a year after hayfever season. all singles ao fit in our washer. they are still good and we have no plans to replace them.

Pillows - same. though some are those ergonomic pillows that can't be washed. but the casing gets washed once or twice a year.

Mattress - put on a new topper when they become uncomfortable. oldest matress in the house is about 20 years old.

Wallywobbles · 11/11/2022 22:40

Pillows 40 years or so, so far. They're lovely down ones. I put them in the wash very very occasionally, it they become a bit whiff, then tumble dry them 3x. They clean up beautifully. So comfortable.

Duvets -pure wool bavet one and a silk one. Can't imagine replacing them either.

Summerishere123 · 11/11/2022 22:40

Pillows every couple of years.
Mattress around 10-12 years.
Only replaced the duvet because I discovered coverless duvets.

Swampthing55 · 11/11/2022 22:42

We have the duvets in permanent covers from John Lewis just bung in washing machine. Feather pillows are washed maybe quarterly and tumble dried. Still look like new will replace if they stop looking like new. Stained not fluffy etc. mattress is about three years old cost couple of grand wouldn't expect to replace it to be honest it's memory foam and turned monthly still good as new

FrightfullyFreezy · 11/11/2022 22:42

Very rarely.

YorkieTheRabbit · 11/11/2022 22:45

Bought new pillows and duvets when we went from a king size to super king bed, just over two years ago. We have pillow and mattress protectors.
I want to swap my pillow, it looks fine but I don’t find it that comfy.

Diplidocus4 · 11/11/2022 22:52

Pillows when they get saggy or uncomfortable.

Duvets when they get a stain.

I use covers on both so washing isn’t an issue.

Mattress? 👎 never

I work in a shop that sells bedding , I would say it’s one of the things that we sell the most of .

Every New Year everyone goes bedding and storage max !!! Every single year !! We had a sale on bedding and pillows recently and it was amazing how much got sold .

Every nights delivery has duvets and pillows and every night there’s spaces from the sales in the day …

I do wonder a lot what all these people do with this bedding !

Theladyinred · 11/11/2022 22:57

By bedding I do mean duvets , pillows , mattress toppers etc

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 11/11/2022 22:58

Duvet I replaced last year, the other one I had for 5 years but washed twice a year... pillows... I use a memory foam one, it has a cover so I just wash that and then replace the pillow when it’s no longer doing it’s job, the last one lasted 4 years. Had this one now over a year. Mattress was replaced about 4 years ago so still got a bit of time I think
....

Diplidocus4 · 11/11/2022 23:00

@Theladyinred
I wonder how many "sets" people own then ?
I have 3 bedrooms, all double , with 2 sets each , so 6 in total.
But I've still got odd bits of sets .
I've also got old duvets and pillows , which is why I started this , I need to clear some stuff but nowhere takes old duvets ?

Our local animal shelters take duvets, but not all do.

I replace pillows when uncomfortable and duvets when we get a new bed, mainly because we tend to size up! I've had 4 mattresses in my adult life (20 years) - mattress 3 wasn't in need of replacement, we just got a bigger bed, it's still on the bed in the spare room and I sleep on it on any opportunity, it's heaven. Hate mattress 4!

Christmasamtryigtogetexcited · 11/11/2022 23:13

I genuinely don’t know . Pillows when yellow, duvet god knows and mattress after about 10 years ..I think .
