Whatsapp, can you tell me what's likely going on?

I sent a msg, it has one grey tick, so somehow it's not delivered? I can still see the persons profile pic & changing timestamp so I guess I'm not blocked?

Maybe their phones off or has no signal so it hasn't delivered

This.

LoveShitJokes · 11/11/2022 17:15

One grey tick sent, two grey ticks delivered, three grey ticks read.

If you can see their profile picture you are not blocked.

MayMoveMayNot · 11/11/2022 17:19

Never had or seen the three grey ticks... they turn blue if its been read and the user has read receipts turned on.

Mine are turned off (along with last seen time) so anyone who sends me a message won't see the ticks turn blue.

Except in group chats, then they are on all the time I think.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 11/11/2022 17:21

It's not yet been delivered - so they have no wifi/data, or phone off.

bloodywhitecat · 11/11/2022 17:22

Yup, phone is off or out of signal. The messages I send DH don't go to two grey ticks until I switch his phone on.

Jippers · 11/11/2022 19:26

I'm assuming their phone is on as the time stamp is changing through the day...

It's Friday evening you have sent the message all you can do. Forget about it and do something more fun than stalk someone's WhatsApp.

(As a very general rule if you have to stalk their WhatsApp they are probably not worth the message in the first place)

FatEaredFuck · 11/11/2022 20:28

You can change a setting so no one knows if you've read a message or not, but the setting means you cannot see who has read a message you've sent.

Ive no idea how it looks after you send it to someone who's chosen that.

Kfjsjdbd · 11/11/2022 20:32

Yeah I reckon they have changed their settings so people can’t tell if they have read the message or not. I have this because it drives me crazy that people know when a message has been read and expect an instant response (looking at you MIL)

This.
I've changed mine so no one can see if I'm online too from latest update.

Much better that friends can't see me online when reading message. Otherwise instant reply is expected

mrsmarmalade12 · 11/11/2022 20:36

One grey tick means sent, two grey ticks are delivered and two blue ticks mean read. You can change it so the ticks don't turn blue but not so there's only one tick.

No, one grey tick sent, two grey ticks delivered, 2 blue ticks once read.

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 20:38

You can turn off the ticks, so they don't go blue. One grey tick means it's been received but not read.

Nope, one grey tick means it's been sent. 2 grey ticks means it's been received

One grey tick means it's been delivered but not read. I've never had 2 grey ticks on Whatsapp.

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 20:43

When the message has been read the tick goes blue.

FettleOfKish · 11/11/2022 20:45

One tick sent, two ticks delivered. Ticks either stay grey or turn blue when read, depending on the recipient's settings.

To the best of my knowledge the recipient has no control over the 'delivered' status, if it hasn't been then it hasn't been. Phone is either off / out of signal / whatever.

So the last seen has been updated since you sent the message?

I’m having that very regularly with dc1 who never reads his WhatsApp….
Its there, ready for him to read but he doesn’t go in the app.

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 21:11

When I receive a message I can read it on my homescreen without opening the message on whatsapp. The message has one grey tick until I read it on the actual app.

NerrSnerr · 11/11/2022 21:21

Do you have form for telling them off for not reading/ replying messages? Maybe they're ignoring you.

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 21:24

it's easy to ignore a Whatsapp message if you get a notification on your homescreen.

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 21:24

It would still have 2 grey ticks as it’s delivered.

don’t know what version of WhatsApp you’re using but I’ve never used a version where there’s only one tick. You can turn read receipts off, but it still would just be two greyed out ticks
