MIL has just told me that DH (6'4) was 11lb when he was born Shock

Both of my babies were under 9lb, their dad is 6'4 as well.

steff13 · 10/11/2022 22:19

My dad was 6'3" and weighed 11 lbs at birth. My brother and I were both 6lbs something at birth. My husband and I were both average-sized (I'm a little taller than average) and my babies were 7lbs 15; 10 lbs; and 8lbs 6.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/11/2022 22:19

No my DH is 6'5" and both my boys were 7lb1oz

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 10/11/2022 22:19

Dh is 6 4. Ds was 5 weeks early at 5-7!!

RewildingAmbridge · 10/11/2022 22:19

I have a 6'4 husband, 12 pounds at birth. DS was 7 '9 but almost six weeks early

Shopgirl1 · 10/11/2022 22:20

My dad is 6’4, I’m now 6ft, but I was 7lbs full term

RoseAndGeranium · 10/11/2022 22:21

Husband and I both 6ft. Husband has ENORMOUS head. Both babies born on just about 50th percentile for weight with 50th percentile head circumference.

dooeydecimal · 10/11/2022 22:21

I genuinely haven't a clue how our bodies do it. I do want to TTC but jeepers creepers the thought of 8lb shooting out of my nethers.

My son was 10lb 10oz but he is donor conceived! I do know the donor was 6ft 3 tall though, but don't know his birth weight I am 5ft 7 and was 8lb 3oz at birth. My son is very tall now at age 5 he is the height of most 7 year olds x

ny20005 · 10/11/2022 22:22

Carrying big babies is genetic but will be dependant on your mum. My mum had huge babies & so did I

TheFairyCaravan · 10/11/2022 22:23

DH is 6’4.

DS1 was 8lb 3 56cm long with a 38xm head. I’d never noticed DH had a big head until then.

DS2 was 8lb, 60cm long with a 37cm head. He was 3 weeks early.

I’m 5’4 with a very petite frame so they were big for me

dooeydecimal · 10/11/2022 22:24

Off to measure DH's head now Grin

Not quite your question but my partner is 6'4" and over 16st, but his mum assures me every time she sees me that he was only just over 7lbs at birth. Think she wants to make sure we're not put off having her grandchildren

feliciabirthgiver · 10/11/2022 22:27

Nope, I've two kids by two dads and they were both 7.8 despite two completely different size dads (DS1's dad was over 9lb when he was born).

dooeydecimal · 10/11/2022 22:28

Does it really come from your mum? My brother was a thumper (9lb I think?), I was just under 7.

That’s interesting. My mum had two whoppers and two average sized babies (all the same father). Of the two of us that have had children the whopper had whoppers and the average sized had average sized.

linziere · 10/11/2022 22:30

My DH is 6'4" and was under 9lbs, I'm 5'8" and was 9lbs 9oz! Our DD was 9lbs 5oz.

QuimReaper · 10/11/2022 22:30

Definitely not - both my sister and my friend had babies with huge partners within a few weeks of each other, both had the same fear and both turned out completely average weight, even on the smaller side. (To be fair I don't know the men's birth weights off hand...!)

MissDollyMix · 10/11/2022 22:31

Conversely I know a lot of petite people with small partners who’ve had massive babies!

waldorjs · 10/11/2022 22:32

Husband well over 6ft, babies were fairly average at 7 and 8lb, but they are both very tall now and in clothes older than their age.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 10/11/2022 22:32

I was under 4lb when I was born but am now tallish for a woman (5”9)

Babies’ father was over 10lb when born and is tallish for a man (6”2)

Babies were born at entirely normal, bog standard average weights of between 7.5lb and 8.14lb.

I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to it.

Chloefairydust · 10/11/2022 22:33

Yeah it can be genetic, my eldest DB is very tall, DM had a difficult and long Labour with him, said he was a big and long baby 10 pounds something… his dad was very tall and apparently was a big baby too, so were all his siblings … it ran in his family to be tall and all were big babies when born 😮

I have a different average height father and me and my other DB were average sized babies 7/8 pound babies

ChickenMaths · 10/11/2022 22:34

I was nearly 11lb at birth, 5'3" and normal BMI now. DD was 7lb and I shot 8lb DS out my nethers as you put it and it was the most exhilarating experience of my life, I loved it!

I think Tyson Fury was 1lb (preterm) at birth and now 6'9"!

Baconand · 10/11/2022 22:37

DH is 6ft 3 and rugby build. DD was 6lb 10 despite me having GD and born after EDD. I’m 5ft 4 and was also a 6lb something baby.

Tannedandfake · 10/11/2022 22:44

Nope. All my babies have been around 6lb despite me being tall and my husband being 6’4”
