Smart meter question

jamontoastaddict · 10/11/2022 18:43

Might be a daft question-Does the smart meter include the standing charge? Or is it just energy actually used.

In the morning it always around £1.79 and about £3.00 at the end of the day

Yes my standing charge is applied after midnight.

It's not a daft question - different displays/apps have different set-ups and you can choose how data is displayed. Mine adds on the standing charge, but I am more interested in how many kWh I'm using each day.

I'm being continually pestered to get one installed as it'll lead to more accurate bills and I'll save money allegedly. My electricity usage doesn't really vary from season to season as my gas would. My TV is on for X hours a day, I use the washing machine X times a week etc so I don't see how it will make any difference.

Can anybody enlighten me please?

I asked this to edf the other day as my smart meter would say I used 60 on average each month but then on the app would say 80. They said they add vat, charges on to it. So no the smart meter reading isn't the amount you're billed at the end of the month if that makes sense.
