Is there a quick way to find out if a charity is registered or not?

Does a charity (animal rescue) need to be registered somewhere?
I only have their group name and Facebook doesn’t show a charity number. Company house have them as a rescue ltd that was dissolved in 2018.

I’d really like to make sure they are above board and charity money is for the animals before I donate.

It needs to be registered if it's income is more than £5K a year.

Yep - means that very small fundraising organisations - such as small school PTAs - don't have to go through the faff!

All charities with a turnover of £5000 or more annually need to be registered with the charities commission.

Ofttimes people will set up "rescues" for animals without any type of registration, particularly those on Facebook.

two of the most hard working for animals people i know who do so much for unwanted and stray cats are not actual registered charities because their income from donations is below the threshold but that does not make them a genuine rescue
