I've just seen posts being shared on a Mumsnet Facebook page which can then be shared by all and sundry. I thought this was a bit more anonymous than that.

No it's the internet? And it's available to anyone even if they're not logged in?

BobbyBobbyBobby · 10/11/2022 09:04

Mumsnet is a website that can be viewed by anyone even if they are not signed up as a member to comment.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/11/2022 09:09

Anyone can look.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/11/2022 09:10

Yes I guess you're right it just seems a bit like it's more available if that makes sense. I guess I'm wrong

Daily Mail pick up on some posts too.

CheeseNOnionBestFlavour · 10/11/2022 09:13

There's big social media share buttons at the bottom of every thread for anyone to share.

All businesses advertise on SM, the threads and us are the product (as so often the case in free to use things).

Its also in their terms of service.

Not really surprising. Also there's tonnes of social media account, reddit threads, Facebook groups that screenshot mn threads, the Internet is not private.

JenniferBarkley · 10/11/2022 09:14

There is absolutely nothing private or removed about Mumsnet. See screenshot - millions of people are viewing.

It can be anonymous if you're careful about what you post, change details and name change regularly so that posts can't be linked.

But essentially, never put anything on the internet that you wouldn't put on a billboard.

JenniferBarkley · 10/11/2022 09:14

Gah forgot the screenshot.

It's an internet forum not an exclusive members only club. Anyone can read, join, post, share etc.

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2022 09:15

Of course they share stuff on their FB. 🙈

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/11/2022 09:19

@Sparklingbrook I know it probably sounds a bit daft/naive I just thought it would be more of a closed thing. Not sure I'm making sense now ha ha

It is the most opposite to a ‘closed thing’ than you could possibly get. As you are probably realising now.
MN is a business and they need to draw traffic to their site to keep it going. FB is a great way of doing that.
