Made.com has just gone bust!

More job losses as Made.com has just gone bust.
Next has bought the website but apparently none of the stock and also they aren't taking on any of the staff.

This is like 2007 all over again when the boom went bust.

I feel for all of the staff in Twitter, Meta/Facebook and any company really when they lose their jobs. This isn't made any easier in a cost of living crisis.

It is a shame for the staff, but their products were very poorly made. I ordered a footstool with wonky legs and it couldn't ever be sat on as it wouldn't bear weight. Made were terrible for customer service over this so I never ordered anything else.

SisterGeorgeMichael · 09/11/2022 15:05

Next will own everything soon. Lips, Gap, Laura Ashley.

DeborahVance · 09/11/2022 15:11

Made had lots of problems that were nothing to do with any recession. Ridiculous lead times and terrible quality.

friskybivalves · 09/11/2022 15:12

Bought a dog bed from them and even that unravelled at the seams...

BamBamBilla · 09/11/2022 15:12

Never even heard of them till today.

mumda · 09/11/2022 15:15

Did they make anything?

Londono · 09/11/2022 15:16

(The footstool wasn't meant to have wonky legs, but it was delivered like that)

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/11/2022 15:28

They were overpriced for what they sold and a lot of the stuff was poorly made, so I doubt many people made more than one purchase from them. They must have been pretty badly managed as well - they made a killing with orders during lockdown when conventional stores saw their sales fall, yet couldn’t keep building a successful strategy on the back of that.

I do feel for the staff but I had a terrible time with them. The chair I bought was expensive, badly made and did not work properly. I had to wait 6 weeks for it to be picked up, got charged for the return and had to wait for a refund.

I'm not surprised it went bust.

littlefireseverywhere · 09/11/2022 15:48

We tried to buy a sofa bed from them a few weeks ago, but the lead time was 12 weeks. So pleased we didn't we ended up with MandS and it was £50 cheaper for an identical product, delivered 2 days later.

Shellingbynight · 09/11/2022 16:38

I'm sorry to hear they've gone. We've got several pieces of furniture from Made including the sofa I'm sitting on, they are all absolutely fine, none of it has fallen apart, and delivery was quick. That was about 8 years ago so maybe the quality and service deteriorated more recently, many brands seem to have gone down hill.

Bluevelvetsofa · 09/11/2022 16:42

I agree that the service and quality was probably better some years ago. We have two chairs that have been fine for eight years.

Kfjsjdbd · 09/11/2022 16:48

We always had good experiences with Made.com, it’s Loaf who are dreadful and I would never order there again. When we moved into our first house we bought a bed from there (it fell apart), a sofa that sags dreadfully and looks awful, and their service was so poor.

MegGriffinshat · 09/11/2022 16:51

I found made to be terrible quality and really awful customer service.

inamarina · 09/11/2022 17:01

We bought three things from them and they were all poor quality unfortunately.

Leading · 09/11/2022 17:03

Everything we had - couldn't fault the quality at all.

The lead times were ridiculous, though.

Flowerpot28 · 09/11/2022 17:06

Crazy I ordered a coffee table April 30th said delivery expected to be late august ( I loved the item and had my eye on it for a while) then it delayed. Now it’s gone bust.. was expecting it in the next two weeks holding on with crazy unrealistic faith I’ll receive item 😂

jackstini · 09/11/2022 17:21

Shame. I have a lovely sofa from them - about 10 years old and still looks fab
