Anniversary treat - two 3* nights or one night away somewhere fancier?

We are coming up to 20 years married. In our naive youth we thought we would be second honeymooning at this point but budget does not allow at all.
Have 4 kids so life is just depressingly and relentlessly expensive
Really wanted to go abroad for a city break but think that really is too complicated so have accepted that it will have to be UK (we are in the SE which doesn't help with the relentless expense)
So my question is it better to have two nights away but somewhere a bit less good or one night away but really fancy?

One fancy night!

A 3* in the SE will probably be fine. You could have a nice meal and stay at a lovely B&B?

Depends, what do you plan on doing? Just spending time together or do you want the fancy meal, a massage, a nice pool.. Is it about a bit of spoiling and a break or is it about time together?

There are some awful hotels I’ve stayed at that I would pay never to have to go again.. But cheap and cheerful would be fine. Long walks, fish and chips on the beach, quality time together would be lovely.

Sorry not sure how to do a clicky link. Me and DH have done a couple of very reasonably priced breaks through this website. MiL likes to have our two DC a couple of times for a couple of nights during the year so I look for something not too far away ( we are in North Lincs/ South Yorkshire ) with a pool and parking. The dinner - bed - breakfast deals have been pretty good. We then just look what is nearby.
